Obituary: Salvatore LaRussa

Salvatore LaRussa, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Betty) LaRussa of Arnold, MD, and loving father of Patricia LaRussa of Sea Cliff, Robert LaRussa of Arnold, MD, and Lori LaRussa of Arnold MD; devoted grandfather of Stephanie Augresani of Annapolis, MD, John LaRussa of Arnold, MD, William LaRussa of Arnold, MD, Robert LaRussa of Arnold, MD, and Joseph LaRussa of Arnold, MD. He is also survived by brothers, Frank and Anthony and by sisters Rose, Mary and Rita.

Sal LaRussa’s life was a classic 20th century American success story. He witnessed dramatic changes in the world, along with his contemporaries from the “Greatest Generation.” He was born to Italian immigrant parents in Ridgewood, NY, lived through the Great Depression, and then served in WWII, taking part in the historic D-Day landing in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge, among other events in WWII. He returned home and married Elizabeth Krebs in 1948, settled in Ridgewood, Queens, and then bought a home in Levittown, where they joined other WWII veterans looking to build a better life for their children in the New York City suburbs. He had a successful career in banking, always put his family first, and especially enjoyed his five grandchildren. He was a member of the Levittown Chapter of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as an officer, and the American Legion and for years was an usher at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church. He lived in Levittown with his wife for 48 years before moving to Maryland in 2007 to be close to his grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. John the Evangelist Church in Severna Park of Friday, July 30 with the interment at Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery in Crownsville, MD.
