Garden City residents Cari Costa and Alexander DeMarchena attended Hofstra University Continuing Education’s Teen Sportscasting Institute, which celebrates its 10th Anniversary this summer. The Institute offers students the opportunity to learn from well-known sportscasters, including Len Berman and Mike Breen. The program is directed by Ed Ingles, a veteran sportscaster who spent 25 years with WCBS radio and is now a professional-in-residence at Hofstra University’s School of Communication.
At the Institute, students learn the fundamentals of sportscasting as they get hands-on experience with in-depth critiques of their work both in the classroom and in the field, as well as the opportunity to hone their skills in TV and radio play-by-play, anchoring and reporting, interviewing, writing, commentary, and professional presence. Each student left the program with a demo CD of their work.
