As this fine summer winds down, I encourage all to spend time with their family and friends before the hectic nature of fall arrives. There is still a little time left to head to the pool and/or nearby parks for outside activities for both young and old.
Tree comments/concerns: FYI: As comments/concerns come to Village Hall, a work order is assigned to that particular issue and depending on the nature of the concern, it is reviewed and placed on a schedule. Due to road work and other issues a response may take a little longer than normal to complete. However, all concerns presented, are promptly put into the system and assigned a work order number. The more serious safety issues are dealt with ASAP. It is advisable, but not mandatory, that requests be put in a written letter to help ensure that the correct information is obtained. Our village staff, both in the office and in the field, work hard to help make this system work effectively.
Neighborhood Watch: This valuable program continues to move forward as the majority of blocks in the village have volunteer block captains. Most residents, if not all should have received a packet of information including the name of their block captain. All decals given out should be placed in a window, visible from the outside. This aspect is a major component of the program as the action indicates to potential bad guy that the eyes and the ears of the village are vigilant and watching closely.
Road Work: The road work continues on a fairly rapid pace. For the most part, the weather has been consistently suitable for the project. I realize that the work has been disruptive at times but this can’t be helped due to the nature of the project. I ask all to remain patient and understanding as the project moves forward. Paving is about to begin, depending on the weather, as the majority of the preparation work has been completed. Ackerman Grant is moving closer to approval according to NYSDOT.
Third Precinct : At our most recent village board meeting, Inspector Kevin Canavan, commanding officer of the Third Precinct was present along with Deputy Inspector Sean McCarthy to answers residents’ questions. During the course of the public meeting both offered detailed reports regarding recent police activity in the community. Mayor Nancy Zollezzi attended our work shop session so as to best coordinate both villages and the third precinct in dealing with local concerns. Both officers were extremely helpful and informative during both of these sessions.
As I’ve noted in the past I continue to be at Village Hall on a daily basis, unless I’ve been out of town on vacation. However, the hours fluctuate.
