Congresswoman McCarthy Supports
‘Make It in America’ Agenda,
Promotes Economic Growth and Job Creation
I am a proponent of legislation that encourages manufacturing in the United States. I firmly believe that a robust domestic manufacturing agenda, not only yields durable, high-quality products, but also facilitates economic growth by creating greater demand for skilled high-wage jobs. Our nation is beginning to forge an economic recovery, but difficult circumstances persist and more must be done to stimulate growth and recovery. With that said, I am determined to continue to promote and pass legislation that creates American jobs and am a supporter of Congress’ ‘Make It in America’ agenda.
Most recently, I was pleased to support the passage in the House of Representatives of three bills: H.R. 2039, the Congressional Made in America Promise Act, H.R. 2853, the All-American Flag Act, and H.R. 3116, the Berry Amendment Extension Act. Each, if signed into law, will do much to spur American economic growth. The federal government should set an example for the rest of the nation by purchasing quality American goods. These bills achieve just that. The Made in America Promise Act requires Congress to buy goods and services made by American workers. Similarly, the All-American Flag Act stipulates that the federal government only buy American-made national flags. Furthermore, the Berry Amendment Extension Act builds upon a six decade long history of the federal government, now adding the Homeland Security Department in addition to the Department of Defense and Coast Guard that are already required to only purchase American-produced textile products.
Common sense legislation like the ‘Make It in America’ bills ensure that we, as a nation, work to aid ailing sectors of our workforce and continue to bolster those that continue to perform soundly. The passage of these three bills compliments a larger effort that has already done much to help bolster our domestic workforce. I will continue to work to pass legislation that boosts both the short-and long-term growth of the national economy.
