Letter: Operation Wounded Warrior

The members of Locust Valley Fire Department are set to host their 3rd Annual Pasta Dinner fundraiser to benefit the Nassau County Fire Fighters Operation Wounded Warrior (NCFF-OWW).

The dinner will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Locust Valley Firehouse. Admission is $10, children under 12 are free.

Also this year, we are very honored to have as our guests, the family of Navy Seal, Lt. Michael Patrick Murphy from Patchogue and Gary Williams, the author of the recently released book Seal of Honor about the life of Lt. Michael Murphy.

Lt. Michael Patrick Murphy earned the Medal of Honor on June 28, 2005 for his bravery during a fierce fight with the Taliban in the remote mountains of eastern Afghanistan. The first to receive the nation’s highest military honor for service in Afghanistan, Lt. Murphy was also the first naval officer to earn the medal since the Vietnam War, and the first SEAL to be honored posthumously.

NCFF-OWW, organized in 2006, is a non-profit 501c(3) organization whose mission is to provide needed items to the injured men and women of our armed services. These items are personally delivered by up to 100 firefighters from Nassau County, including Locust Valley firefighters in early December of each year. This is when we visit our injured troops in Walter Reed and Bethesda hospitals in Washington D.C., and the recuperating injured troops at both Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

Thousands of our young injured troops from throughout the country now have a special place in their hearts for the communities of Long Island because we have shown them that we have not, nor will not forget the sacrifices they have made for us and our great country.

One hundred percent of proceeds go towards Operation Wounded Warrior. If anyone would like to donate prizes for raffle, they can be dropped off at our firehouse. Anyone wishing to make a contribution, please make checks out to “Operation Wounded Warrior” and mail to: Locust Valley F.D., 228 Buckram Rd. Locust Valley, NY 11560. Thank you in advance for your generosity towards our injured troops. Contact Paul Long at 676-5104 with questions.
