Tony Pilla Knows Oyster Bay

Wow, this was a hard one but two loyal readers aced the mystery picture from Sept. 30. Tony Pilla emailed us his answer saying, “I think it is one of the oyster boats that is usually docked by the Bayville Bridge.

“I have a question for you, since it’s been a long time since my last visit to Oyster Bay: do they still have oyster boats in the harbor down by Commander Oil?”

That was a question for Patricia Aitken, Friends of the Bay executive director who goes out on the bay every Monday – weather permitting – to check the water quality. She said, “We have many boats in the harbor because of the abundant oysters in Oyster Bay. And, Frank M. Flower & Sons, Inc., still unloads at the Oystermen’s Dock next to Commander Oil: those healthy abundant oysters the bay is famous for. Our motto is ‘We keep the oysters in Oyster Bay,’”.

So, Mr. Pilla, it’s true, we’ve got your oyster boats right here! You are keeping a voice in Oyster Bay even thought you are now living in Anniston, AL.

We also received an email from the Mystery Phantom. He said, “It’s the Ida May, at the WaterFront Center.”

Another good answer. The Ida May is currently waiting in line to go inside “J” Building at the Western Waterfront. The oyster sloop Christeen is in first place, as she goes in to have her keel replaced. They are asking the community to help fund the “operation”. She will be located inside the building for the Oyster Festival.

Again, let us thank our great readers for their responses.
