Alan E. Baum, 89, died on Oct. 10, 2010 at the Martin County Hospice in Stuart, FL. He was born on July 26, 1921 in Fairfield, CT, to Seymour J. and Anne Lynch Baum, the youngest of eight children.
He was a graduate of Columbia College of NY and Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, Class of 1945. Alan was a US Navy veteran of both WWII and Korea. He had a long and distinguished career as a board certified radiologist having a private practice in Westbury, Hicksville and Huntington. He resided for over 50 years in Oyster Bay Cove and was a parishioner of St. Dominic’s before moving to Palm City, FL.
In his distinguished professional career, Alan served as president of the New York Chapter of the American College of Radiology; professor of clinical radiology SUNY Medical School in Stony Brook; chief of radiology at the Veterans Hospital of Northport. Alan had many interests and enjoyed golf, gardening and Civil War history.
Alan is survived by his wife of 64 years, Cecelia Jane (nee Connolly) of Dansville, NY; sons, Gregory of Palm City FL, Douglas and wife Sally, of Lynchburg, VA, Alan Jr. and wife Cathy of Hicksville, William and wife Susan of Carolina Beach, NC; and daughter Reyne Brezinski of Port St Lucie, FL.
His grandchildren include, Christopher and wife Andrea; three great- grandchildren. Ryan, Erica and Ian, Elizabeth Connolly (nee Baum) and husband Trevor; great-granddaughter Lily Jane, Meredith Mulford (nee Baum) and husband Michael, Heather Baum, Laura Baum, Daniel Baum and wife Sarah, Stephany Cecelia Reborn (nee Baum) and husband Eric, Andrew, William and Kathryn Brezinski.
Arrangements were made by the Aycock Funeral Home, Stuart, FL, Funeral Mass was held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Palm City, FL.
