The Division Avenue High School students, faculty and staff welcomed their alumni back to an outstanding homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 23. This year’s theme, “Through the Decades,” galvanized the school community and inspired a feeling of unity and common spirit throughout the building.
The football team played very hard despite the many injured players they had on the team.
The day’s festivities began with a parade led by Assistant Superintendent of Administration and Personnel, Darlene Rhatigan, Levittown Board of Education President Michael Pappas, Vice President Peter Porrazzo, and Board of Education Trustee Ed Powers, Legislator Dennis Dunne and Comptroller George Maragos.
The Marching Band led an array of clubs and teams, each sporting banners, through Levittown from Wisdom Lane Middle School onto Hempstead Turnpike and finally onto the beautiful field at the high school. The gorgeous fall day brought an even brighter smile on the homecoming court: King nominees Peter Calabrese, Matthew Garcia, Peter Harvey, Jr., Robert McNamara, Joseph Mongiardo, and Brandon Oliveri; Queen nominees Andrea Gonzalez, Karolina Ksiazek, Lauren Montvilo, Kim Paulsen, Emma Roseval, and Kristen Stuart.
With a celebratory crowd filling the bleachers, last year’s Homecoming King and Queen, Michael Comuniello and Gina Rigali, were on hand to crown this year’s Queen and Princess, Kristen Stuart and Kimberly Paulsen.
The half-time spectacular, featuring the Marching Band, the Color Guard, the Cheerleaders, and the Kickline entertained students, alumni, faculty, parents, friends and loyal supporters. The juniors and the Art Club proudly accepted congratulations for the winning banners. Lynn Castellano, Gerard Marzigliano and Mike Verdi emceed the festivities and the Quarterback Club parents gave the play-by-play of the game and served food and drinks from the new Snack Shack. The splendid sunshine brought the community together giving a sense of family environment.
