Theresa Varricchio Knows Oyster Bay
Theresa Varricchio, an Oyster Bay teacher’s aide for 27 years at the Oyster Bay High School, correctly identified the picture in the Nov. 11 issue of the Enterprise Pilot. She said, “It’s the OBHS guidance office.”
Actually, when she identified the photograph we thought: what a good place for a guidance office. It is in the foyer of the gymnasium portion of the school. It is right outside the library. It is just off the entrance from the street.
It appeared to us that it is truly accessible for a student considering a visit to the guidance office. Hopefully any student with an itch to go in and chat should do so. I remember a time in college when I heard a sorority sister was going to quit school. I visited the guidance office and found out she felt she wasn’t appreciated or cared for. She was a lovely girl and a sweet friend. When the sorority learned about her feelings, we nominated her as treasurer of the group, a position we knew she would fill wonderfully. She helped run the sorority and stayed the course. It has always been a fond memory, a story she never heard about.
So the moral is, in these challenging times: Drop into the guidance office [whatever your “guidance office” is age appropriate to you] if you have a feeling there is a reason to. Go in and chat, you may truly be doing a service to yourself and others.
P. S. Billy Minicozzi too called to identify the picture and wish his favorite teams a great season.
