Kevin Kremler Scores in 2nd Annual Great Prostate Cancer 5K

The venue for the Great Prostate Cancer 5-Kilometer Run on Nov. 14 is a bit different than the standard road race, with 3.1 miles entirely on the pathways of the Town of Oyster Bay’s Golf Course in Woodbury, and the not-so-gentle (but short) hills provided an interesting challenge that the 382 finishers (a 30 percent increase over 2009) seemed to thoroughly enjoy once again.

Veteran Hicksville runner Kevin Kremler turned in another strong performance in this year’s Run, finishing in 22:06 to earn the second place award in the 55-59 age group.

The Great Prostate Challenge 5-Kilometer Run is one of a series of such runs held all over the country to promote “zero tolerance for prostate cancer.” The local organizing group is Integrated Medical Foundation, which offers free cancer awareness/educational programs/support services and free cancer screenings to the New York community. As IMF Executive Director Rhonda Samuel said, “This run is part of our ongoing effort to cure prostate cancer, and to help men with prostate cancer manage their illness with good quality of life and with the support they need to minimize physical and emotional suffering.”

Thanks go to the key sponsors of the event: premier National sponsor Abbott, premier local sponsor the CPA firm of Nussbaum Yates Berg Klein & Wolpow, LLP, and other key local sponsors Zwanger-Pesiri, Bostwick Laboratories, Integrated Medical Professionals, Ferring, Accuray and a special thank you to ZERO, the Project to End Prostate Cancer.

Special thanks go to the Town of Oyster Bay, led by Supervisor John Venditto and Town Councilman Joseph Pinto, who were on hand to welcome the runners to the event, to the incredibly competent and enthusiastic folks from the Town’s Parks Department, to County Legislators Rose Marie Walker and Joe Belisi and New York State Assemblyman Michael Montesano, all of whom were also at the event to cheer the runners on.
