Kira Garry Receives Scholar-Athlete Award

FA Senior selected as News12 Scholar-Athlete

Congratulations to Senior Kira Garry (Locust Valley) for being the latest recipient of the Long Island News12 / MSG Varsity Scholar-Athlete Award, which recognizes all around achievement in scholarship, athletics, leadership, and school service.

For Ms. Garry, this award carried a definite prestige. “I am very proud to have received the scholar-athlete award. I’ve known about it since I was a freshman and looked up to previous Friends’ athletes like Helen Hatch or Lizzy Drumm who had received it,” said Ms. Garry.

The recognition also confirms Kira’s belief in staying true to your passions. “I think receiving this award affirms the hard work I do and pushes me to continue working hard. I love both my academic work and athletics, so I think this award has shown me that if you are passionate about something and work hard at it, you can reach your goals,” she said.

Enrolling 750 students from Play Group through Grade 12, Friends Academy is guided by its Quaker heritage and the principles of integrity, simplicity, patience, moderation and a peaceful resolution of conflict.  The school is located on 65 acres at the intersection of Piping Rock and Duck Pond roads in Locust Valley/Glen Cove.
