RunSmart Program Off to a Great Start

RunSmart Get Runners Ready for the Festival of Races on May 1

Notwithstanding frigid conditions, nearly 200 runners  were on hand in Bethpage on Saturday morning, Jan. 22 to get started on the  RunSmart Training Program for the Long Island Marathon Festival of Races.

Lots of people signed up that morning, and everyone enjoyed either a one loop or  two loop running tour of the Bethpage community – from the library up Broadway  and then around and back via Stewart Avenue to Broadway, Powell Avenue, and the library.

Head Coach Debbie Blair and her team were thrilled to  have Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, Deputy County Executive Rob Walker, and  Nassau County Parks Commissioner Carnell  Foskey on hand to help get things  started.

“We are quite pleased at the support our efforts are  receiving from County Executive Mangano and the Parks Department,” observed  Coach Blair.  “RunSmart is a wonderful avenue for allowing more and more  runners to get ready for the Festival of Races on May 1.”

It’s not to late to get started!  There are still  three months between now and the Long Island Marathon Festival of Races, and  that’s plenty of time to get ready for your first 10K run, Half Marathon or, if  you have a good enough base, Full Marathon by May 1.  Contact Debbie  Blair at the Greater Long Island Running Club at (516) 349-7646 or email her
