How great it is for the Herricks School District to have our friend Jim Gounaris decide to run for the Herricks School Board. We have known Jim for 25 years. In all that time he has proven to be one of the most unselfish and caring individuals we have ever met.
In our early twenties, a friend of ours got sick with a Staph infection that settled in his heart. He was going to need heart surgery but there was a problem, his family did not have the money for health insurance or the money to pay for the surgery. In a matter of three weeks Jim along with a small group of us arranged a massive fundraiser for our friend and his family. Through Jim’s contacts we were able to arrange for a variety of donations so that we could maximize our proceeds. Hundreds of young people came out that night to support the cause. At the end of the night, through his efforts, we raised over $20,000 for his parents.
This is the type of person Jim is. He always finds a way to “answer the call” when needed. When I asked him why he decided to run for the Herricks School Board, his response was, “The community needs a voice, someone new who will be active in trying to find new ways to teach our kids, and fund all the schools programs while being cognizant of the fact that the community is in a deep financial crisis.”
We need Jim Gounaris to be elected to the Herricks School Board and we encourage our entire community to do so. He is the right person, at the right time for this job!
