Hillside Beverage Ducks
Another nail-biter for the fans as their Bears battled to a win in aclose game. The men in blue eked one out with only four hits, two coming late in the game. Base running, fielding and pitching made all the difference inthis baby. The Bears bats were uncharacteristically quiet, but the conversion of four hits to four runs turned out to be enough. Christian Carrick had a single to lead off the first and came around to score. In the fifth, tied 2-2, upper deck seats starting to empty, Yanni Rigos started a comeback rally with a big double. Corey Rutkin protected the plate, waited for his pitch and earned MVP with a single that sent the winning run home. The fans rallied, the stands rocked and Jason Seidman brought Corey home with a huge shot to right field.
The Bear’s hurlers only walked one batter in today’s match-up. Starter Carrick and closer Rigos each threw great innings. Carrick had 5 strikeouts and allowed only 4 hits. He announced early that the team had come to play as the first three batters were retired in order. Rigos got the win with 4 strikeouts and only two hits against. He showed nerves of steel coming into the sixth inning. The first batter nailed a sharply hit grounder to right field, but his support team was in place. Anthony Verde fielded and launched it to first baseman Rutkin and the out was made. Rigos then took a deep breath and struck out the rest of the side.
There were several great plays made by the golden gloves of the infield. Carrick snagged a foul pop in the second. Also in the second a man was thrown out stealing on the combined efforts of catcher Rutkin and shortstop Anthony Lanzilotta. Anthony Pitre, playing second, made a tag that prevented the go-ahead run. Brenda Nolty, Max Cohn, Rich Lufrano and Matthew Vowinkle were all solid in the outfield.

It was a beautiful night for baseball in NHP. Leading the offense for the Braves was Edward Mauceri, Duhan Lee, Alex Schwartz, Ben Goodwin & Ryan Wasserman with 3 hits each. 2 hits each by Matthew Bloom, Kenny Hirschfeld, Eli Goodwin, Matthew Heimowitz, Jimmy Weedon & Jaden Weisser. Stephen Lopez contributed with 1 hit. Leading the defensive for the Braves was Jaden, Ryan, Kenny, Alex & Jimmy. Kenny blocked a hot ground with his body and then fired a strike to first, wow what a play. A great all around team effort and both teams showed excellent sportsmanship.

Gigi’s Pizza Phillies
Starting pitching has been the Diamondbacks biggest strength and tonight the team welcomed both Abidin Dauti and Daniels Son to the rotation. They joined the team veterans, Christopher Bruccoleri, Nickolas Levkulic, Cenzo Montoni, Mathew Strocchia, AJ Devito, and Mathew Merolla. Three days after scoring 9 runs and powering 14 hits, the Diamondbacks bats were quite silent tonight. Christopher Bruccoler hit a double scoring 2 runs, Nick Levkulic had an RBI single, and Daniel Goldberg added an RBI on a fielders choice. Cenzo Montoni came in to pitch with the Dbacks down by one, and struck out the side to keep the game within reach. In the top of the sixth, AJ Devito, Michael Castelli, Daniel Mattei, Brendan Slattery, Mathew Merolla, and Abidin Dauti, played valiantly and started a rally that came up short. The Dbacks never give up and until that last pitch is thrown, they give the fans everything they have. Although the winning streak is over, “ it has been a wonderful ride”.

Domenick’s Italian & American Delicatessen (6)
The Rays dropped their second game in a row, this time to the marvelous Mariners by a score of 6-1. Despite the loss, the Rays played probably their best defensive game of the season, highlighted by excellent performances from Evan Chaleff (gunned a runner out from 3B), Sean McClellan (repeated great plays at SS), the combo of Brian Volk and Jack Tucker (combined to nail a runner at the plate), Jake Dieber (nice grab at third), Matthew Solomon (solid all game long), Tyler Dauble (continued to shine behind the plate) and Joe Sullivan (heads-up play in getting the lead runner at 2B to stifle a rally). The pitching from the Rays staff was also outstanding, thanks to Charlie Goodwin, Sean O’Connor and Sean McClellan, who as a staff limited a potent Mariners offense to single runs in the first 4 innings and only 2 runs in the fifth inning. The offense, while only breaking through for onerun, kept the pressure on the Mariners, thanks in part to nice at bats fromAngelo Ferrigno and Sean O’Connor.

Friday night the cubs came out with a strong offense led by Aaron Canese, Evan Merensky, Marco Gullo, and Brendon Coogan, each with four base hits. James Gensch, Brendan Cooper, and Arjun Bhatt also had a great day at the plate with three hits each. The cubs had a tight defense led by Logan Golia who made several put outs at first base, and Even Merensky who made a great catch off a line drive up the middle. The Cubs are improving every game!!!

Albertson/Herricks Rockets (7)
On a beautiful spring evening the Fireballs took to the field against the Albertson/Herricks Rockets. Starting pitcher Sophia Leeds had a good performance on the mound getting stronger each inning and striking out 5. Silvana Seidita came on in relief, did a great job and pitched a no hit, scoreless inning. Catcher Stephanie Zovich completed the battery and took charge behind the plate under some tough conditions.
The girls were taking great cuts at the plate and the hitting was lead by Casey Sanders with a rocket shot for a double, Sophia L. 2H, Isabella Fazzolari 2H, Julia Kosinski 1H, Melanie Feinsilver 1H, and Jillian Bergman 1H. Rachel Moss and Samantha Grenard did a great job reaching base each time and scoring 5 runs. Aggressive base running led to multiple runs, with Isabella, Sophia and Casey each stealing home!! Solid defensive play by all. This was a true teameffort.
Each and every girl contributed to the victory!! Keep up the good work girls. GO FIREBALLS!!

For the second game in a row, the Rays played a nearly flawless overall game, yet again came out on the short end of the score, on Friday the 13th,with a 7-3 loss to the omnipotent Orioles. The Rays jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, thanks to the first inning power display from Charlie Goodwin, Sean O’Connor, Brian Volk (triple) and Sean McClellan. A series of ESPN-worthy web gems kept the Rays in the game, highlighted by a near-double play started by Sean McClellan (who also turned in multiple catches of pop-ups in the infield throughout the game), a clutch grab of a hot-shot line drive at 3B by Charlie Goodwin, two pretty plays in a row at SS by Brian Volk (who also, while catching, nailed consecutive would-be base stealers), beautiful stretches and picks by first-baseman Jack Tucker, and strong outfield play by Tyler Dauble, Matthew Solomon, Joe Sullivan, Jake Dieber and Angelo Ferrigno, whodidn’t let the high-powered Orioles take any extra bases on hits. The Rays were led on the mound by the team of Charlie Goodwin (2 innings, 1 run), Jack Tucker, Sean O’Connor, Joe Sullivan (making his pitching debut with a scoreless inning) and Sean McClellan (2 innings, 1 run). Despite the loss, the Rays are really coming together as a team, especially in the field, and are gearing up for the playoffs in fine form.

The Brewers went on a hitting attack scoring 15 runs with on 13 hits. William Lentini walked three times scored a run and made a nice play at first base. Adrian Balkcom was 1 for 2 with a forceout two RBIs and made a nice play in right filed to force a runner at second. Justin Tamara made three great throws at catcher and was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored two stolen bases and three rbis. Siva Paturi was 3 for 4 with two doubles 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Matt Rivera pitched a scoreless inning striking out 3 batters and was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Virag Shah was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles with 3 runs scored and 4 RBIs and he pitched a scoreless inning striking out three batters. Danny McCellan was the hitting star going 4 for 4 with 4 doubles 2 runs scored and 5 RBIs. Sam Motelson was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored and two stolen bases. Jared Puntus walked and had an RBI forceout and pitched a scoreless inning striking out 2. Frankie Stigliano walked and scored a run. Aaron Lesser was 2 for 2 with a runs scored and an RBI.

Friday May 13, 2011 Beautiful night for baseball and both teams played a great game. The defense led by Nick Marsella, Eli Goldberger, Giuseppe Seidita, Christopher Zovko and Seth Newman all made wonderful defensive plays. On offense always leading the way Justin Marsella and Nick Marsella going 4-4.Other great at bats by Eli Goldberger with 3 hits. With two hits each Micheal Campagnuolo, Attilio Lamoretti, Stephen Robayo and Anthony Stigliano. Also Christian Sikiric with a hit. The Big Bat goes to Giuseppe Seidita with two Monster Doubles and 4 RBIS for the day. Great effort by the boys getting better every game. Great job boys.

Gair, Gair & Conason, et al Angels Intra-Squad Game
The Gair, Gair & Conason Angels continued with their skillstraining and developmental program; all of the Angels are showing vast improvement in every aspect of the game. Fielding standouts were Sarah Hershenhorn, Ryley Lum, Katherine Wang, Amanda Roth, and Melanie Ranieri. At the top of the throwing accuracy drills were Julia Renney, Eily Montenegro,Emilia Schneiderman, Priya Abraham, Stella Bizekis and Amanda Rosenberg. Nice strokes at the plate were had by Olivia Reese, Amanda Putter, Emily Speter, Ashley Wu and Cathy Yang. The Angels also learned about bench etiquette by sliding over to make room for a teammate to sit, where the “on-deck circle” is, and what it means to have “last-licks” in baseball.

Both teams played well in a 4-2 Bear victory where a colorful umpire provided entertainment and advice throughout. The game began with the announcement, “Boys, this is my kingdom and in my kingdom, shirts are tucked in and helmets are not askew. If you can’t follow these rules don’t expect me to call anything but strikes!” Other little ‘umpirisms’ included a prohibition against swinging two bats in warm-up, the pronouncement that ‘ a tie never goes to the runner’ and as a catcher seemed a little slow getting the ball back to the pitcher ‘ I only wait for my wife’. Best of all perhaps was his declaration as a batter got nicked by a pitch was that ‘that’s why girls don’t play baseball.’ At this juncture we’ll simply express our admiration for Coach Lori’s restraint and move on to reporting the actual play.
There was no score until the third when the River Sharks went up by two on two singles and a walk as starting pitcher Christian Carrick began to tire. Carrick threw three innings and had six strike-outs and allowed only the two runs.
In the fourth the Bears again failed to produce. In thebottom of the inning, the River Sharks came up to the plate with power, butwere stymied by some amazing work in center field by Matthew ‘Mickey Mantle’ Vowinkle who caught two blasts with deceptive ease. The third out came fromsome nice infield work by third baseman Corey Rutkin to Jason Seidman at first.
Things heated up in the fifth and we have to give a shout-out to our intrepid umpire who sensed spirits flagging in our dugout and was very encouraging. It must have worked because the Bears came out to theplate, took control of the game and never looked back. What an inning it was! Fielding phenomenon Vowinkle slammed a double to start it and Yanni Rigos followed with another. With runners at second and third, Anthony Pitre’s sacrifice fly sent one home. Corey Rutkin up next, drew a walk and then in a clever piece of base running started the steal toward second as the fielders were watching the runner at third. He drew the tag but Rigos was able to get home in the confusion and the score was tied! Even our umpire is excited “that’s the way to play small ball”.
In the sixth inning the Bears sealed the win in the best possible way. Rich Lufrano, with his first hit of the year, after several years of not playing baseball came up to the plate with two outs. Well folks, he launched it! See ya!!! Home run!!! In the bottom of the inning the River Sharks again were shut down by the fielders, Pitre made a beautiful play at short stop, catching a sharply hit grounder and Rutkin made a nice catch at third. Rigos pitched three innings and allowed only one hit and no runs.

Ridgewood Savings Bank Rays
The Applebees Dodgers demonstrated their newly learned skills with inspiring effort this past Saturday in their game vs the Rays. Dodger Robert Teets showed everyone that he has a rocket fast arm and Aedan Smith smashed a line drive single up the middle in the first inning. On the diamond, young Aidan Multani tried his hand at shortstop and Sanay Shah did a good job scooping the ball and fielding at first base. Connor Gould played good defense and caught a few well hit grounders at third base. At the plate, Aedan Cotter beat out a tipped ball for a single and Alan Sikora blasted the ball more than once for a couple of infield hits. Fielding in the second inning was led by Ryan Lau who fielded a few from his position on the pitchers mound and continues to swing the bat well too. Lance Yetikyel played the outfield and showed that his throwing arm is a force to be reckoned with. Teammates Justin Hazlewood and Zachary Stoyer also snatched a few ground balls and threw to first with pinpoint accuracy stopping runners in their tracks. Thanks to our friends on the Rays for a good game.

It was a cool misty day for baseball in NHP. Leading the offense for the Braves was Matthew Bloom & Jaden Weisser with 5 hits each. Eli Goodwin, Alex Schwartz & Jimmy Weedon with 4 hits each. Jimmy also smashed a laser double to the opposite field. Ryan Wasserman, Edward Mauceri & Stephen Lopez had 3 hits each. Ben Goodwin contributed with 1 hit. Leading the defensive for the Braves was Jaden, Ryan, Matthew,Alex & Jimmy. Ryan caught a pop up and then turned and fired a strike to Jaden to complete a double play. The play of the day went to Edward for using his body to block a looping liner and then completing the put out by making a great throw to first just in time to get a speedy runner. A great all around team effort and both teams showed excellent sportsmanship. Get well soon to Kenny Hirchfeld who had to placed on the disabled list prior to the game.

The Pirates defense was lead by great pitching by Max Dienes (2 2/3 innings) and Patrick Devine, who pitched his first game for the team (1 1/3 innings). Strong defense by Nicholas Reda and Michael Kurre added to the strong effort.
The Pirates offense was led by Sean O’ Leary with a triple, double, single, an RBI and two runs scored. Connor Wong and Dharyl Moon also each hit a double. Max Dienes hit 3 singles and earned two RBI’s. Patrick Devine hit two singles and earned 2 RBI’s. Vittorio Destefano and Scott Goodman each hit a single.

The Pirates defense was lead by great pitching by Max Dienes (3 innings) and Philip Chang (3 innings).. Strong defense by SeanO’Leary, Dharyl Moon, Matthew Shen, Jeremy Feng, Scott Goodman and Michael Kurre added to the strong effort.
The Pirates offense was led by Max Dienes, Philip Chang, Nicholas Reda and Vittorio Destefano who each hit a single. Walks by Patrick Devine and Sasha Gentile who each scored a run helped with the effort.

The Diamondbacks continued their hitting parade in the second of back to back games vs the Marlins. There was no shortage of offense between these two teams.The threat of rain was not a factor on Sunday as the two teams pounded the baseball and combined for 19 runs.
Daniel Mattei got the DBack’s on the board by scoring their first run of the game. Nicholas Levkulic led the offensive charge for the D’Backs with two doubles, a single, two runs scored and two RBI. Cenzo Montoni had two hits drove in one and scored one. Christopher Bruccoleri,showed his blazing speed on the base paths and scored a run. Mathew Merolla hit a key double in the 5th inning driving in two and also scoring a run. Abidin Dauti pitched a strong inning,crushed a triple in the top of the 6th and scored the tying run with some heads up base running. Brendan Slattery showed off his arm as he threw out a base runner who was attempting to steal third base. Daniel Goldberg had a successful pitching debut while wrapping a double and a single in three at bats. A.J.DeVito pitched an inning, hit a solid single and scored a run. Matthew Strocchia ripped a double with his new found power and also scored a run. After playing three games in four days the DBack’s are ready to get right back at it on Tuesday verses the Stutzman Funeral Home Brewers.

The Royals finally got a nice night for a ball game, and the sun brought out the best in everyone. The first inning got off to a strong start defensively with Luke Notine making a nice tag play for the first out, and Jesse Witt finish things off with 2 unassisted put outs. The boys couldn’t muster much offense in the plate in the first inning, but got back in the game after a great defensive effort in the second from Demitris Panouis who made all three outs in the frame with great throws from Short Stop. Another highlight in the field came in the third inning when Joseph Montoni threw from shallow left to Alfred Squicciarino covering at 3rd. At the plate the bats came alive in the second, and stayed hot for the rest of the game. Gavin Borduas and Trevor Yee each had three hits and scored a couple of runs. Scott McClellan, Dino Vidaich, Alex Spagnoli, Ryan Gonzalez and Justin Cosgrove all contributed with hits as well, and all the team showed great hustle on the base paths. Way to go Royals!

Game 8 held at Manor Oaks field 1 was another great example of Nationals baseball. Jon Ziebitsch went 3 for 3 in the lead-off position and turned two unassisted put-outs at 3rd base. He was in good hitting company as Daniel Reilly, Cooper Alwadish, Erik Lyngstad-Hughes, Jack Kareff, Jackson Benjamin and Ben Bidner were also perfect in three plate appearances. Michael Frising, William Rho and Aidan Chun were also perfect in their plate appearances. Defensively James Prado made an unassisted put out at first in the first. Jonathan Grenard made a put-out at first in the third. Jack Knupfer made and unassisted tag-out in the third. Jackson Benjamin made another unassisted double play!

vs. Notre Dame CYO Padres
Batting 2nd Jack Kareff went 5 for 5 with two monster blasts in his first at-bats, Ben Bidner went 4 for 4. Defensively the team continued to improve by leaps and bounds. When the team needed good defense they made plays consistently getting the lead runner. Jonathan Grenard made a good appearance at 1st base going after a line drive well out of his reach but Jonathan did not give up. Jackson Benjamin had an unassisted double play and other dazzling catches. Erik Lyngstad-Hughes had 3 put-outs at the pitcher’s position in the 4th. Michael Frising continued hitting and made a great appearance behind the plate. Jon Ziebitsch and Ben Bidner made solid appearances behind the plate as well. These catchers all throw their masks off to get ready for the play at the plate. Daniel Reilly absolutely clobbered the ball for the game’s only double. James Prado scored twice as he was a constant presence on the base-path. Jack Knupfer played a solid short stop and first base and James Prado played a great 3rd base making a put-out and contributing 2 runs-scored.The Nationals are looking forward to their next game against the Braves and keeping up all of the great play!

Both mother nature and the Twins came through today. The day started out iffy but ended up beautiful. There was, however, no question of the Twins resolve! Unfortunately, the Twins were shorthanded with everyday starters Michael Femia and Jeremy Wong on the DL and Philip Garofalo, David Son and Tristan Pia away on personal leave.
The Twins battled a tough Dodgers team today and would like to congratulate their opponents for their outstanding effort today.
LJ Tsiforas and Filippo Taravella led the way offensively coming through with big doubles. Many other players contributed offensively including Parker Cohen, Liam Nihan, Jack Nathan, Evan Lipp, Timo Kurpiewski and Zachary Israel all coming through with big hits.
Several Twins had big days in the field led by Jack and Liam. Zachary and Parker hooked up for some excellent put-outs and LJ made a heads-up play in centerfield backing-up the infielders and recording a put-out at second. The team was excited to see Evan Lipp make his debut at first base as well.
Hand Rolled Bagels Reds (9) vs.
Grant Thornton (7)
Teamwork paid off today, as the Hand Rolled Bagels Reds pulled off their first win of the season, taking down The Grant Thornton Pirates 9-7. While the bats were hot, it was stellar play in the field that made the difference. Jonny Lopez was key in getting the ball in from the outfield, hitting Dylan Kareff at second to hold the advancing runner at second—saving a run. Meanwhile, Eric Del Valle once again proved why he’s an all star infielder, with a strong throw from third to nail the speedy runner at 1st. We also had solid field play from Matthew Barnonci who made another great play at third, with a strong throw to second baseman, Mike Rose, to end the inning. Pitching was solid with two strong innings from Nick Defemia, while Elliot Weissman proved he was the team’s ace helping to close out the game pitching three strong innings with a scoreless 5th to end the game. All in all, the boys were happy and looked forward to a strong finish to the season.
