(Editor’s Note: The following letter to Mayor Brudie and the Board of Trustees is printed upon the request of the Committee to Save St. Paul’s.)
Dear Mayor Brudie and Village Trustees:
The St. Paul’s Conservancy Corp. (aka The Committee to Save St. Paul’s), in conjunction with The Garden City Historical Society, request that these two local non-profit organizations be given the opportunity to present to the board of trustees an updated, comprehensive proposal for the use of the St. Paul’s main building as a public, community resource. This would be a more detailed proposal based on the presentation made to the board in June 2010.
In addition to a review of the specifics of our June proposal, called The Community First, the St. Paul’s Conservancy Corp. and The Garden City Historical Society will give a full explication of the source and utilization of all required financial support, discuss a plan for soliciting from the community suggestions for public use, outline the development of a board to direct the Conservancy, which will be the lead agency on the preservation and rehabilitation project, explain operational plans, and outline public safety measures to be used during the periods of reconstruction and future community use.
This proposal shall be submitted to the board of trustees no later than Sept. 9, 2011. It is imperative that the village administrator and persons appointed by him be directed by the board of trustees to provide all necessary information, support and access to representatives of these groups to facilitate the preparation of this proposal.
We respectfully request the inclusion of this letter on the May 19 board of trustees meeting agenda, and that a written response to this letter be sent to the St. Paul’s Conservancy Corp. by May 20.
Peter F. Negri
President, Committee to Save St. Paul’s
