Thank You for Participating in the Village Blood Drive
I would like to thank the residents and employees who took the time out of their busy schedules to donate blood. You can feel proud of your personal involvement in helping those who depend on blood for life-giving support.
Since there is no substitute for human blood, and no way of knowing when it may be needed to save or sustain the life of a family member, a co-worker, a friend or other member of the community, we must be sure that enough blood is available at all times to meet the needs of our area’s hospitals and their patients.
Again, thank you and we look forward to your participation in our next blood drive in October 2011.
Proper Disposal of Dog Waste
Our Local Law requires dog owners to leash their pets and to clean up after them when they have relieved themselves upon any areas used in common by the public. These areas include median strips, curbs, gutters, park areas, streets, etc. By way of clarification, the village’s local law is very specific as to the prohibition “No person who owns … any dog shall … permit or allow such dog to urinate, defecate or commit any other nuisance upon any public street, thoroughfare, sidewalk, gutter … or park … [or] any place where people congregate, or upon any private property without permission of the owner thereof. The term “sidewalk” as used herein shall mean the area between the curb, or traveled portion of the street if there be no curb and the property line of the abutting property owner.”
Regulations require that dog waste be placed with the rubbish for curbside collection on Wednesdays and be containerized or placed in a plastic bag, which is properly secured. It must NOT be placed in storm drains for obvious health reasons.
Please be considerate of those village employees who are working to keep our community beautiful by cleaning up after your dog and by properly disposing of the waste. In consideration of your neighbors and the health and quality of life within our village, I ask that all cooperate with this law so that it will not be necessary to have the Police Department issue appearance tickets to violators.
Parking Field #12 – East Side of Franklin Avenue Between 12th and 14th Streets
Work in Parking Field #12 continues. This work is being done in four phases with each phase lasting approximately three to four weeks. Phase #1, which is north of Thirteenth Street, encompassing a portion of the northern half of the lot, has been completed and was reopened on Thursday, July 21st. Phase #2 was closed on the same day and consists of the remaining portion on the northern half of the parking field. Please do not park within the construction zone and take note of any temporary parking restrictions that are posted by the Police Department. Additional parking can be found in Parking Field #11 (west of Franklin Avenue) and in Parking Field #9E (south of 11th Street). We thank everyone for their patience during this much needed infrastructure improvement.

Concert at Gazebo
Once again, compliments are due to the Recreation Department for arranging the 2011 season’s outstanding Concert Series at the Village Gazebo, located on the Village Green at the corner of Stewart and Hilton Avenues.
This week’s program is scheduled for Thursday, July 28 and will feature Rag Doll — A Tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
The program will begin at 7:15 p.m. and admission is free. Please bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a very pleasant evening. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held at the Cultural and Performing Arts Center at Cluett Hall at the St. Paul’s School.
Curb, Sidewalk and Road Improvements
Infrastructure improvements have begun throughout the village. Work started on Prescott Street and Plaza Road on Monday, July 18. Other streets scheduled for work are Main Avenue, 15th Street, Boylston Street, Tremont Street, Spruce Street and Bedell Avenue. During construction, detours should be expected at these locations. Residents in these areas will be given notice ahead of the start of construction. Work will continue next on Spruce Street and Main Avenue.
Main Avenue Water Main Improvement Project
Work continues on the Water Main Improvement Project along Main Avenue and is about 90 percent completed. Throughout this project, lane closures and detours should be expected along Main Avenue. Any loss of water that was not outlined in the notice to residents should be reported to the Water Department. The water main trenches will be restored and paved in preparation for street surfacing. This work is expected to continue for approximately two more weeks.
Board of Trustees’ Summer Meeting Schedule
During July and August the Board of Trustees will meet once a month. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 8 p.m.
