Farmingdale High School graduate John Guzman, winner of the Arthur F. White Rotary Scholarship, was the guest speaker at the July 20 club meeting. Rotarian and granddaughter of Arthur F. White, Nancy White, was present to witness the student accepting her grandfather’s award.
Guzman plans to attend the University of Albany in the fall and to study biology and anthropology. His family moved to Farmingdale from El Salvador to escape from the wars there. His excellent biology teacher aroused his interest in biology. He likes to do research on living cells. He is undecided at this point between becoming a teacher, a researcher or to go premed. Guzman’s father is a nurse and his mother does housekeeping.
He enjoys the sports of baseball and softball. He did well in advanced placement biology. Rotarian William Trudden advised Guzman to dress warmly for Albany winters. Len Constantinopoli responded for the Club and congratulated Guzman for winning the scholarship.
