Letter: A Word of Thanks to Village Employees

(Editor’s Note: The following letter was sent to Mayor Donald T. Brudie on Sept. 7.)

With a twinkle in my eye, I say that I am not one to be complaining incessantly to our village leaders about failures of management. I am most aware that now and then one may slip accidentally through the door to your office. Now, that ought to be righted!

Two weeks ago, a friendly staff of your maintenance employees spent weeks repairing extensive damage to Fourth Street. Were they nice? Certainly so. Were they competent? Oh, yes. Did they do a good job? We don’t have gaping holes anymore and automobile springs carrying dedicated clerics to church will spring another day. Our village employees did a fine job.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, when emergencies were surrounding us, our employees worked diligently to minimize residents’ discomforts. But it was after the crises peaked that I saw village staff removing great quantities of tree leaves and broken branches assembled in street piles hastily constructed by harried homeowners. I can appreciate that such work for the benefit of village residents was one requiring serious judgment arising from monetary considerations. But your staff accomplished it and the residents benefitted from your choice. Good going!

Oh, yes. You are also entitled to compliments as the sitting Chief Executive for the skillful redesign of the over demanded parking lot stretching west behind 520 Franklin Avenue — the Medical Building. The additional much-needed parking spaces appear to be most welcome from harried patients searching for their doctor. A long-standing problem there has finally been corrected.

So, that’s three for three. Even Derek Jeter would be pleased, and so should you.
