Good things have been brewing for the Foundation over the past few months!
To start off, we are proud to announce that The Sarah Grace Foundation was chosen as the 2011 Non-Profit of the Year by the Hicksville Chamber of Commerce! The Foundation’s efforts in helping children with cancer and their families were recognized at a dinner held on Sept. 20.
Matt Weippert commented, “It is our pleasure to be able to provide this kind of support to the children and their families,” as he and Marissa Weippert accepted the award for the Foundation. Also recognized by the Chamber of Commerce was the Michael Magro Foundation.
We at the Foundation are proud to present a new program that will help ease the burden on both children and their families: Gabe’s Chemo Duck. Gabe’s Chemo Duck is a program created by Lu Sipos. Lu noticed that while her son, Gabe, was undergoing treatment, the duck that he had by his side was a comfort to him. His doctors would demonstrate the different procedures that he would be going under on the duck, and this helped ease the process for both Lu and Gabe. Lu decided to create the program to spread these ducks to children with cancer all over, and we here at the Foundation have partnered with Gabe’s Chemo Duck and are proud to say that we are the Regional Sponsor of the program! As the sponsor, we will provide ducks to multiple hospitals, including Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York, Maimonides Infants & Children’s Hospital, The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, and Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian, among others. Beginning in September 2012, the Foundation will also begin sponsorship at Winthrop’s Cancer Center For Kids. The Foundation is happy to provide this comfort to the children on their journey.
Starting this November, the Foundation will be starting what will hopefully become a new tradition, our Holiday Extravaganza! For just $20, anyone can purchase a ticket and be entered into a month-long raffle with all kinds of wonderful prizes. The Foundation will be hosting its annual Holiday Party at Cohen Children’s Medical Center this December. This is the ninth annual party that we’ve held for the children and their families, and is fun for everybody who comes down, whether as a volunteer or a patient.
