Runners and walkers from Hicksville, Westbury and all over Long Island are cordially invited to participate in the Blue Ribbon 5K Run for Men’s Health and Prostate Cancer Awareness, which will be held at the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course in Woodbury on Sunday, Nov. 13.
Bringing together athletes, cancer survivors, caretakers, family members, physicians, corporate teams and friends for this heartwarming community event, the Blue Ribbon Run will present a challenging but fair course for the participants and a great morning for everyone who shows up.
The Run will be conducted under the auspices of Integrated Medical Foundation, with Abbott Pharmaceuticals being on hand as the Premier partner and Shiel Medical Laboratory joining the team as the Local Lead Sponsor. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto and the Oyster Bay Town Board have graciously provided logistical support for the event. There will be an onsite health fair as well as free prostate cancer screenings.
The 5K Run will start promptly at 9 a.m. on the morning of Nov. 13 and will be preceded by a Half Mile Fun Walk at 8:20 a.m. Packet pickup will start at 7:15 a.m.. Every entrant in the 5K Run will receive a high quality commemorative Technical shirt. Awards will be presented to the first place overall Male and Female, the first place Masters Male and Female, the top three male and female finishers in each of 16 five year age groups through 85 and over, and the top three male and female Clydesdale/Athena runners in each of two weight divisions.
Entry fees are only $20 in advance and $25 for those who wait until the day of the run to register.
Prostate cancer affects our loved ones…. our fathers, grandfathers, husbands, brothers, uncles, sons, grandsons, friends, neighbors and colleagues. One out of six men (one out of four African American men) will have prostate cancer in their lifetime. 230,000 men a year are diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, and 30,000 of them will die. “I urge all men, age 40 or older to talk to their health care provider about prostate cancer,” said Rhonda Samuel, executive director of Integrated Medical Foundation.
Integrated Medical Foundation’s mission is to improve healthcare through patient education and community outreach. It provides educational programs, prostate cancer screenings and support groups.
