Obituary: Alexander R. Barclay

Alexander R. Barclay “Sandy,” of Locust Valley, died on Nov. 17 at age 65. He was born in Glen Cove on Nov. 9, the son of Alexander and Nancie Barclay. Husband of Marilyn Barclay. Father of Chris (Suzy), Alec (Helen) and Liz. Grandfather of William, Noah and Ben. Brother of Donald (B.G.). He is also survived by nieces and nephews. From an early age, Sandy loved the Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club where he was an active member including being a Pratt Camp camper. Sandy remained involved with the Boys & Girls Club throughout his life as a parent and volunteer. Sandy adored the Locust Valley community. He continuously performed volunteer activities, most notably serving as head of the Community Scholarship Committee. In addition, he was an active member of the Reformed Church of Locust Valley where he served as deacon, elder and vice president. Sandy rose from the mail room of Harris Upham to become a municipal bond trader. Later in his career he led Smith Barney’s North East Municipal Bond business. Sandy was an arbitrator for the New York Stock Exchange Board of Ethics and earned numerous distinctions during his career in the Securities Industry.
