Giant Train Show
Featuring 12 operating model railroads, MTA/LIRR T.R.A.C.K.S. Program and circus model displays. Sponsored by the Bethpage HS PTSA Council and the Northrop Grumman Model Railroad Society. 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Bethpage High School, Cherry and Stewart Aves., Bethpage (Exit 9, Route 135). Donation to the scholarship fund: $5 ($1 for children), good for all ages, snacks and lunch are available, wheelchair accessible. Info (weekdays) 346-9071. The model railroads range in size from 2 feet x 3 feet to 20 feet x 30 feet and Z scale to G Scale – a great way to get ideas on how to set up your train set. This is the largest all model train show in the area.

Senator Fuschillo Online Q&A Chat
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) invites residents to participate in an online Q & A chat session he will be holding between 12:30 and 1 p.m. The Q & A will be held on Senator Fuschillo’s website, Fuschillo.nysenate.gov. This Q & A session allows people to participate in a town hall style meeting without ever having to leave their home or office,” said Senator Fuschillo. “I encourage everyone to submit their questions and then watch the session.” Residents can submit questions for the session anytime prior to or during the session. Individuals who would like to submit a question can do so by visiting Senator Fuschillo’s website. JC Café
The JC Café at Farmingdale United Methodist Church, 407 Main St. (corner of Grant Ave), will host contemporary Christian singing group Jesussheep, a group begun almost 20 years ago by a young spirit-filled mother who decided to share the words and music that spoke to her heart. Others joined her and soon the group was performing original songs with a folk sound and a clear message and showcasing their artwork at various churches and community venues. Doors open at 7 p.m. with complimentary coffee and dessert and the program begins at 7:30 p.m. Suggested donation is $5. Snow date Jan. 28. The Battle for New York
Presented by the Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society. Author Barnet Schecter will tell the story of how New York City became the pivot on which the American Revolution turned. Farmingdale Adult Day Care Center
A social day care program offering socialization and stimulation to persons 60 and over. The caring staff provides innovative activities for those who can no longer attend regular senior centers because of physical and/or mental impairment. It also affords respite to caregivers allowing them valued time to devote to matters of home or personal needs. This interfaith service meets on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 407 Main St. Support groups are also held once a month on Wednesdays. Pretty New Thrift Shop
Donations are needed for the Pretty New Thrift Shop, 238 Main St., Farmingdale. The shop supports the work of Central Nassau Guidance and Counseling Services, Inc., a multi-service mental health and substance abuse agency located in Hicksville. The shop is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and accepts gently used clothing, housewares, furniture and collectibles. Call 420-1394.
Free Writer’s Workshops
Got a hidden talent? Why not share it and develop it at a free writer’s workshop? The LI Writer’s Guild is a friendly, Nassau County-based organization of amateur/professional, published/unpublished poets, essayists, novelists and short story writers who meet at informal workshops at the Levittown and Bethpage Libraries. Everything from plot development to characterization to basic literary theory for the fiction and nonfiction writer alike is discussed and practiced. There are reading and critiquing sessions and recommendations and contacts for the more serious writers seeking to publish their work is provided.
