Arts, Parks And Recreation
Last Friday evening, my wife Barbara and I along with my fellow trustees and their spouses, had the pleasure of attending the kickoff of a new Garden City nonprofit 501c (3) charitable organization entitled “The Friends of Garden City Arts, Parks and Recreation.” This is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting village programs in the arts and parks. Its fundraising will provide alternative funding for village programs and special projects and events so that every resident will benefit from its endowment.
This is an organization of, by, and for village residents of all ages and we are very fortunate to count them as our neighbors.
We wish them success with this worthwhile undertaking.
Tennis Courts – Court Maintenance
The Tennis Center is closed through Friday, Feb. 24, for court maintenance. The Tennis Center will reopen on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7 a.m. If you require further information, please call 483-2525.
Sanitation Collection – President’s Day
Village offices were closed on Monday, Feb. 20, for President’s Day. For your convenience, correspondence for the Village may be placed in the “Letter” drop slot at the front door.
There was no regular garbage and recycling pickup on President’s Day, Monday, Feb. 20 and no Rubbish pickup on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
The schedule for the holiday week will be as follows:
Garbage
Western half of the Village (West of Rockaway Avenue) Tuesday and Thursday
Eastern Half of the Village (East of Rockaway Avenue) Wednesday and Friday
Rubbish
Western half of the Village: Wednesday, February 29
Eastern Half of the Village: Wednesday, February 29
Residents scheduled for recycling on Monday, Feb. 20, are asked to put their recyclables out on Monday, Feb. 27. All other recycling days will remain the same. Rubbish collection has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 29.
Village’s Pool Applications Mailed
Earlier this week, the Garden City Recreation Department mailed their “Splash” Newsletter, which includes the 2012 Pool Application. If you have not received the newsletter/application, please call the Recreation Office at 465-4075.
Budget Work Sessions
I would like to remind you that the board of trustees will be conducting work sessions to review the proposed 2012/13 Village Budget on:
Wednesday, Feb. 29, 7:30 p.m. Budget Study – Work Session 3
Thursday, March 8, 7:30 p.m. Budget Study – Work Session – Final
These sessions are currently scheduled to be held in the Board Room at Village Hall, 351 Stewart Ave., Garden City. All residents are welcome and encouraged to attend.
