At the last meeting of the Oyster Bay Civic Association in January, President Bill VonNovak said in talking to Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto he learned something about the town’s recycling program.
The supervisor said they don’t actually recycle the cans and bottles they collect, but crush and compact them for easy traveling to a landfill.
That intriguing story is the basis for the next meeting of the OBCA on Thursday, March 15, featuring Nancy Kearney of the Town of Oyster Bay Office of Environmental Resources at 7:30 p.m. at the Italian-American Club at 48 Summit Street.
The story is within belief since over the years there have been glitches in the efforts to recycle including a glut of newspaper flooding the market and too many tires for the New York State landfill to accommodate.
We look forward to the meeting. At the January meeting of the OBCA their prime discussion was on the job of the civic association which they believe is in being a forum for important issues in the community – just what March 15 promises to deliver.
It should be a meaningful night and we believe it is a meaningful organization for you to join and support.
