2012 Garden City Pool Applications Now Available
Get a head start on the summer. 2012 Garden City Pool applications have been sent to all residents! Check out the ‘Splash,’ see all the great events planned, and join us for another summer of ‘Fun in the Sun’ at the GC Pool.” If you did not receive your application, please visit the website at www.gardencityrecreation.org or visit our Administrative Office at 108 Rockaway Ave.
Please note: Swim Lesson Registration Form was inadvertently left out of the mailing. If you need this form you may download it from our website or visit our office for a copy. You can also make your own by listing your child’s name, address, phone number, birth date, grade he/she will be entering in September and the session and class code for which you are registering with a first and second choice. Mail all information with full payment of $15 for each child with your pool application. A separate $15 check must be enclosed for each child. Please make all checks payable to the “Inc. Village of Garden City.”
In case of inclement weather, the Recreation Department’s website will be updated to show program cancellations. Please visit the website at www.gardencityrecreation.org to see if any event is canceled or postponed due to the elements.
Time for an Easter Egg Hunt
The Garden City Recreation Department is once again sponsoring the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 7 at Garden City Community Park. This year three hunts will be held beginning at 10 a.m. with three age divisions: preschool to kindergarten, grades one and two; and grades three to five.
Special eggs will be stuffed and hidden for all divisions and each hunt will also feature a grand prize (an Easter basket filled with goodies), which will go to the youngster who finds the egg marked “Number 1 Lucky Egg.”
For further information about the Hunt, please call the Recreation Department at 465- 4075. For weather updates the day of the hunt, please call Community Park at 483-2525. The raindate for the Easter Hunt will be Monday, April 9 at 10 am.
Registration for Roller Hockey Begins
The Garden City Recreation Department is proud to announce its spring roller hockey programs. Whether you played last season or haven’t played in for a while, now is the perfect time to sign up and experience all the fun. The spring season is set to begin in late March. All programs take place at the Community Park’s roller rink.
Registration Information: In person registration took place on Sunday Feb. 26 at St. Paul’s from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applications will also be available on the website www.gardencityrecreation.org, and at the Recreation Department’s administrative office at 108 Rockaway Ave. Please make all checks payable to the “Inc. Village of Garden City.” You can either mail or drop off your registration but remember, space is limited in all our programs so please register early.
A reminder: Each participant is required to wear full equipment at all times. This includes: hockey helmet with cage, hockey gloves, shin pads, elbow pads, roller blades, hockey stick, long pants, and a protective cup.
A description of each program we offer is as follows:
Learn & Play Program Roller Hockey Clinic for children ages 5 and 6. This eight-week program will begin on Sunday March 25 and has been designed to introduce the exciting game of roller hockey. No experience is required in hockey or rollerskating as this is a beginners program. This hour-long clinic will take place on Sunday afternoons at 1:45 or 3 pm. The cost of this eight-week program is $65.
Pee Wee Division for children ages 6 and 7. This eight-week beginner program will continue to develop our young athletes through drills and scrimmages. Each session will feature half clinic and half scrimmage. This hour-long clinic will begin on Sunday, March 25 at 12:30 p.m. The cost of this eight-week program is $65.
Recreation Department Leagues
The roller hockey leagues are broken into age groups. Please pay careful attention as our age groupings and dates/times have changed. * The leagues will begin their season on Friday, March 23 (Junior & Senior Division) and Sunday, March 25 (Mites Division).
Mites Division – is for ages 7 and 8 who have basic skating skills. Since this division is games only, if your child is new to the sports, you should register her or him for the Pee Wee Division. Games will take place on Sunday afternoons with either a 4:15 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. start, depending on your child’s team schedule. The cost of this program is $65.
Junior Division – ages 9 and 10 will play on Friday afternoons at either 4 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. start depending on your child’s team schedule. The cost of this program is $65.
Senior Division – ages 11 through 14 will play on Friday evenings at either 6:45 or 8 p.m., depending on your child’s team schedule. The cost of this program is $65.
Adult Division for ages 30 and over – games will take place on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. with an occasional “Friday night under the Lights.” Games are in “pickup” format. The cost of this program is $55. The season begins on Sunday, March 25.
