Stella Gavril, longtime resident of Hicksville for over 50 years, passed away on Feb. 12, 2012. Her husband, Leo, also deceased, had been employed as an engineer with Grumman. Her daughter, Sally, also deceased, had been a teacher at Lee Avenue Elementary School.
Stella was the St. Francis of 6th Street because of her love for all living creatures. In their senior years Stella and her husband spent many summer days at the Cantiague pool where they made many friends. Stella was a wonderful neighbor and friend for over 40 years. It was only five years ago that Stella moved away from Hicksville to live in an assisted living home in Trumbull, CT, to be near her son-in-law, his wife, her two grandsons and her seven great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed.
