Plant Sale And Car Wash
The Garden City Community Church, corner of Stewart Ave. and Whitehall Blvd., is hosting its annual Plant Sale and Car Wash from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Beautiful spring plants will be sold and cars will be washed by the youth. The funds collected will go toward this summer’s Mission Trip to The All Saints Church Camp in Nassau, Bahamas, a neglected community suffering from AIDS and HIV. The Garden City Community Church Youth will be renovating dilapidated buildings and helping to build new homes for the residents. ZigZag Quartet

Free Breast Cancer Support Groups
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. All groups meet at Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. Anyone who is worried about breast cancer should call the hotline for help. There is no cost for any group; however, preregistration is required. Meet Author Joe Jackson
The Westbury Memorial Public Library, 445 Jefferson St., Westbury, will welcome author Joe Jackson to discuss and sign copies of his latest work, Atlantic Fever: Lindbergh, His Competitors, and the Race to Cross the Atlantic. Jackson’s Atlantic Fever takes readers on an aviation journey and delves into the lives of those who competed to be the first to fly, nonstop, over the Atlantic Ocean. The book’s May 8 release coincides with the 85th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh’s successful and historic flight in 1927. Hansel And Gretel
Share an incredible experience at the opera this month when Hofstra University presents a production of Hansel and Gretel, performed by The Bronx Opera Company. Breast Reconstruction Program
Restoring Wholeness from a Medical and Artistic Perspective. For breast cancer patients undergoing mastectomy, the anxiety about the diagnosis and prognosis may be overshadowed by the fear of deformity and a change in body image. Two prominent plastic surgeons, Dr. Vincent DiGregorio and Dr. Ron Israeli, both board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and members of the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Program’s advisory board, will share the latest medical information about breast reconstruction. There will be a Q&A period and light refreshments will be served. The event is held at 7 p.m. at Alumni House, Adelphi University, 154 Cambridge Ave, Garden City. Preregistration is required. Blood Drive
Nassau Community College, in conjunction with Nassau University Medical Center, invites members of the community to donate blood during its annual Celebrate Summer Blood Drive, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Ballroom of Building K on the NCC campus. The donation process takes less than an hour and light refreshments will be served to participants. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old and in good health. “Opportunity and Impact: Works by Émigré Artists.” This original exhibition examines the role of émigré artists in reshaping the nature of American art. The exhibit features artists who arrived from Europe during the early 20th century to present-day émigrés from Africa, Cuba, and South Africa. American art traditions and directions have been profoundly influenced by the contributions of these artists. Furniture Needed
The A.T. Stewart Exchange Consignment Shop, 109 Eleventh St., Garden City, is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture, and show it to Kris or Jill at the shop (516 746-8900). Consignees get 50 percent of the selling price. Parking is convenient because the shop is located on the lower level of the Garden City Historical Museum.
