Rob Finneran, a right-handed pitcher who helped the Bentley University Falcons post a 28-14 record against regional competition, has been selected for the 2012 Daktronics NCAA Division II Baseball All-East Region second team. Finneran, a grad student, was previously voted to the All-Northeast-10 Conference first team.
The Garden City native became the second pitcher in Bentley history to win eight games in a season, finishing at 8-3 with a 2.26 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 79.2 innings. Against the East, his numbers were even more impressive as he won eight of ten decisions, held hitters to a .212 average, pitched to a 1.85 ERA and struck out 73 in 73 innings. Only nine of the 63 hits he allowed all season went for extra bases, and he stretched his string of innings without allowing a homer to 85.1.
Finneran, who missed the 2011 season due to surgery, closed out his collegiate career with a 21-8 record, tying the school record for wins. He’s also number one in program history in ERA (2.81), strikeouts (229, an average of 8.58 per nine innings) and winning percentage (.724). Bentley finished the 2012 season with a 28-23 record.
