Gaby Treble Knows Oyster Bay
Gaby Treble correctly identified the May 31 mystery picture in the Enterprise Pilot. She said, “It’s the Oyster Bay High School principal. He’s taped to the wall with duct tape.” Ms. Treble recognized the principal, Dr. Dennis O’Hara, but checked with her brother Harrison, in seventh grade to be sure. She asked him, “How come he’s taped to the wall?”
Elfia Presta called to identify the picture and said, “It’s Dr. O’Hara in the Oyster Bay High School. I work there and he is my boss.” She and her office mates said the event was to raise funds for the eighth-grade trip to colleges to raise awareness about going to college.
The photograph was taken by Tom Gould, OB-EN media communications specialist. He said, “Here at Oyster Bay High School, we are proud of the way our students and staff come together to support great causes.”
Mr. Gould wrote a story about the event sponsored by the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). “The NJHS sponsored a fundraising event to benefit the College Awareness program, specifically the eighth grade college trip. The event was called ‘Stuck On Our School.’ During lunch periods 4 and 5 on Feb, 16, students bought ‘tape tickets’ for the month leading up to the event. A tape ticket allowed a student to get a piece of duct tape and use it to stick Oyster Bay High School Principal Dr. Dennis O’Hara to the wall of the cafeteria. This event netted close to $1000,” he reported.
Billy Minicozzi called to identify the May 24 mystery photo, but missed the column because of our early holiday deadlines. He also took a guess at the May 31 photo. He had been looking forward to marching in the Memorial Day Parade in Bayville, and thanked the chiefs for letting him take part in the event. On a sports note, he said the Mets were 50 years old as a team, from 1962 to 2012. They have been celebrating this year. The Mets opening game on April 11, 1962 was against the Cardinals. They lost that game 11- 4. Gil Hodges made a home run in that first game and Charley Neal struck a homer in the fifth and it was all down hill after that. Do you remember those iconic names: Manager Casey Stengel, Stan Musial, Richie Ashburn, Gus Bell, Don Zimmer, Felix Mantilla, Roger Craig.
