All Day July 14, 15
Ten days after the Fourth of July, the Hicksville Americans Soccer Club of the Long Island Junior Soccer League will host a three-on-three tournament at Stillwell Woods on South Woods Road in Woodbury being played all day on Saturday, July 14 and Sunday, July 15.
More than 100 teams – both boys and girls teams from Under-6 to Under-18 as well as men’s, women’s and co-ed squads – will participate in this Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) event. Each player receives a participant T-shirt and will play a minimum of three games. Games consist of two 12-minute halves or the first team to reach 12 goals. With all that scoring, you can probably figure out that there is no offside rule, no goalkeepers, plus kick-ins instead of throw-ins.
The top three to four teams in each age group qualify for the regionals held across the United States. The closest regional competition to New York takes place July 28 and 29 in Flemington, N.J.
Regional winners qualify for the three-on-three nationals, being held next January at Disney’s Wide World of Sports, a short “corner kick” southwest of Orlando.
Hicksville’s tournament sponsors include New York Community Bank, the New York Daily News, Premier Soccer Academy and HBC Event Travel Services. For more information, please contact tournament director Eric Lorandini at hasctournaments @gmail.com
