Introducing 10 And Under Tennis At Community Park

The Village of Garden City Recreation Department is proud to announce that we will be adopting this USTA (United States Tennis Association) approved methodology for teaching children age 10 and under the game of tennis. Kids around the world have been successfully playing tennis using the 10 and under format for years. By using slower-moving and lower-bouncing balls, shorter and lighter rackets on smaller courts kids can get into the game easier, making tennis more fun from the start by boosting their confidence and building skill development. Each practice will be designed appropriately for the physical, mental and social skills of that age group. Emphasis will be placed on rallying and playing so that children want to learn the skills necessary to play with their friends on a team.

The recreation department knows its children will benefit from these changes to the program and hopes you will all continue to support the tennis program in the future. Please watch for the upcoming fall class schedule and registration information.

Floor Hockey Program For This Fall

*Roller blades are being traded in for sneakers this fall while the new roller rink is being constructed.

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce that this fall it will offer an indoor floor hockey program (tournament style) for residents of the Village of Garden City. (This program will take the place of the popular fall roller hockey season while the new roller rink is being constructed.) The program will be open to ages 5-14 and will be held on Friday evenings at the St. Paul’s Field House. The program will begin on Sept. 14 and run for eight sessions at a cost of $40 per participant.
