PAL Flag Football Wraps Season

Farmingdale’s PAL Flag Football league wrapped up play for most divisions Sunday at Woodward Parkway Field. After Super Storm Sandy forced a one-week postponement, it was great to see the kids back on the field on a picture perfect day. All players received a medal or participation gift to cap another successful season. The high school divisions finish play this Sunday.

Grasshoppers—Dean Kott, Luke Begley, Colin Horowitz, Chris McIntyre, Chris Ruotolo, Sal and Nick Migliaccio and Anthony Scarmato all scored for the 49ers during their final game of the 2012 season. The kids all played hard and had a great season. A special thank you to all the parents that made it week in and week out. We look forward to seeing everyone again next season.

Peanut 2—The Redskins finished their season strong on the final Sunday of the 2012 season. Joe Mahan threw a touchdown pass, ran for another and also contributed two tackles/flags. Will Napolito had a rushing TD and a TD reception while Gabe Aliendro scored on a touchdown run of his own. Michael McCarty, Mason Kott and Jonathan Pereira each had nice runs. Thank you to all the kids for their efforts and thank you to all of the parents for dedicating their time. I hope the season was as much fun for your children as it was for us to coach and we look forward to seeing everyone again next season.

The Saints beat the Vikings  24-18.  The Saints’ offense was led by the lethal QB-wide receiver combo of Mike Connolly to Torin Kassenbaum.  On the very first play, Connolly threw a perfect pass to Kassenbaum who took off and ran the entire length of the field for the score. Late in the game, when the outcome was still in doubt, Connolly connected once again with Kassenbaum for another TD.  Connolly added an impressive 30-yard run, while Kassenbaum was tenacious on defense snagging countless flags. The Saints offense also got impressive TD runs from Christopher Leon and Gavin Vega. Leon’s TD run was an impressive grind-it-out, yard-by-yard struggle while Vega’s TD run was a demonstration of his lightning speed. The Saints also got major contributions from some nifty runs by Jimmy Sanders and solid defense by a determined Robert Trey Rowland.

The second grade Jets ended the season with an all around great performance by the team. They had a strong running game with Tyler Kretzmer and Olivia Cassese both scoring touchdowns. Bryan Birkl, Tommy DeRespino and Alena Godas all had runs for long gains. Brian Berge who had an interception and pulled a lot of flags led the defense. Quarterback Chris Kosinski led the passing game connecting with Anthony Ventiere twice for long gains. Kosinski passed two touchdowns to Philip Piero with the second coming on the last play of the game.

The Steelers ended their season with one of their best efforts of the year. CJ Mangio and Jack Wiser had a TD and an interception each. Dillon Mehta, Joe Walsh and Nick Mahan scored on long TD runs. Aidan Ng had a solid defensive game, as did Matt Cangelosi, Ben Purcell, and Izabella Cimino.  Special thanks goes to Coach Craig Mangio for his help and commitment throughout the season. The coaches thank all the parents and players for their dedication in making the season a success.

Girls 5/6—The Lady Saints ended the 2012 season with an impressive 22-12 victory over the Jets. The story of the first half was all offense. Sophia Iaccino and Kayla Poltorak each caught touchdown passes and Sammy Dunn scored on a long run. Nicole Kosinski got into the end zone on a two-point conversion. Julia Graziano and Kristen Dunn who both had interceptions anchored the defense.
