With the help of resident Suzie Alvey, the Garden City Life will be running photos of unidentified homes from the village that may or may not be still standing. We’re asking that readers delve into their memories or share these photos with friends and relatives in the hopes we can get them identified. If so, please contact Alvey at 516-326-1720 or suziealvey@gmail.com. Evolving from a project that’s centered on digitizing the Garden City Library’s archives, plans are not only to make these records more complete, but also have Alvey shoot a photo of the current building if it still exists. Part of the village’s rich history is the architectural beauty that’s been a constant ever since Alexander Turney Stewart kicked things off by purchasing almost 10,0000 acres of the Hempstead Plains back in 1869. This is a chance to actively contribute to that legacy.
