The Farmingdale State softball team is now 3-3 overall after splitting two games today, their third day at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Rams fell 14-2 to TCNJ in the first game, before bouncing back with a 5-3 win over Ripon College.
In game one vs. TCNJ, the Lions scored two runs in the first inning and Farmingdale State tied the game 2-2 in the third with an RBI singles from senior first baseman Jennifer Jarczynski (West Babylon) and senior third baseman Kristen Flint (Brentwood).
TCNJ went ahead 4-2 in the fourth and scored two more in the fifth before a big seventh inning would be too much for the Rams to overcome.
Despite the loss, the Rams totaled six hits, including three for extra bases, and made no errors. Sophomore centerfielder Michelle Mongiello (Elmont) was 2-for-4 with two doubles. Sophomore pitcher Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown) fell to 2-1 overall over six innings with two strikeouts.
The second game of the day against Ripon featured a Farmingdale State rally in the sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead.
Trailing 3-2 after five, a one-out single by senior catcher Lauren Nelson (Levittown) put the go ahead run on first. Freshman second baseman Joanna Carillo (Franklin Square) walked and freshman catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue) also walked to load the bases. With junior shortstop Hillary Genova (Brentwood) at the plate, a wild pitch scored the game-tying run, Nelson, from third.
With runners on second and third, an error in centerfield allowed Carillo to score and give the Rams a 4-3 advantage. In the seventh inning, Farmingdale State added one more run on an RBI single by Nelson, scoring Jarczynski from third and the Rams held on for the 5-3 win.
Sophomore pitcher Taylor Webb (West Babylon) improved to 1-2 overall after allowing just four hits and one earned run with two strikeouts.
