Calling All Green Thumbs
At 1:30 p.m., a master gardener from Cornell University Cooperative Extension will be conducting a gardening program called “Lawn Care & Our Environment—Including Organics” at the Garden City Public Library. He will provide attendees the information needed to show off their lawns to neighbors. Proper mowing, watering and fertilization, disease, insect and weed control, thatch and core aeration are just some of the topics to be discussed. The leaching potential of fertilizers and pesticides into Long Island ground water is high and will be an important focus. The master gardener will explain pesticides and who is allowed to use them as well as lawn care without pesticides.
