Hockey Rink Open
The Recreation and Parks Department’s new roller hockey rink is now open for general public use by Garden City residents during the following days and times:
Tuesdays 3:30 p.m. to dark
Wednesdays 3:30 p.m. to dark
Thursdays 3:30 p.m. to dark
Saturdays Noon to 6 p.m.
Sundays – Family Skate 3 to 6 p.m.
Please note that Sundays is for family skate time only, no hockey will be allowed during this session. Proof of residency will be needed. Please sign in with the attendant on duty.
Children’s Yoga
Certified yoga instructor Connie McKnight has designed youth yoga classes for ages 6-9. Each class in this 6-week session is one hour long. All classes are held at St. Paul’s Senior Center and will begin the week of May 9. Any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City in this age group is invited to join these relaxing classes.
The course schedule is as follows:
Thursdays at 4:15 p.m., beginning on May 9. Six classes for $42.

Baseball Skills Competition At Grove Park
The Recreation and Parks Department will again run the local level of Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit and Run competition. This event will be held at Grove Park at 4 p.m. on May 16 with a raindate of May 23. Garden City residents ages 7–14 are invited to come down and participate in this free program. This is open to both boys and girls. Age is determined as of July 17, 2013. Winners have a chance to participate in the sectional level to be held at a later date. The program is free but pre-registration is necessary by May 15. To register, please visit the recreation office at 108 Rockaway Ave.
Boys And Girls Lacrosse Camp
For children entering 1st through 6th grades in September. Here is an opportunity for youngsters who are residents of the Village of Garden City to learn the techniques of catching, throwing, scooping, and shooting through fun drills. They will also learn the rules of the game by scrimmaging. This is a basic camp where no experience is necessary and equipment is provided.
When: Week of July 1-3 (3 days, no class on July 4-5)
Week of July 8 – 11
Where: St. Paul’s field
Time: 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. for children entering 1st and 2nd grades
11 a.m.–1 p.m. for children entering 3rd-6th grades
Fee: $58 for week of July 1; $75 for week of July 8
Recreation Soccer Camp
This instructional program will be offered for boys and girls entering grades 1 through 6. This camp will be held at Community Park.
The two-hour session will run from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., at a cost of $75 and will focus on individual skill development. The five-hour session will run from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at a cost of $160. The five-hour session will include an hour lunch break and recreation session supervised by the soccer camp staff, to be followed by full field games.
Equipment Needed: Cleats or sneakers, shin guards, and a soccer ball and lunch with drink if attending full day program.
When: Week of July 29–Aug. 1
Where: Garden City Community Park
Time: 9:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m. or 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Fee: $75 for morning session; $160 for 5-hour session
Youth Baseball Camp
The recreation department will again conduct a summer baseball camp for boys and girls that are residents of the Village of Garden City.
This instructional program is offered for boys and girls in 1st through 6th grades. The camp will focus on individual skill development, and the importance of playing together as a team.
Youngsters in each age category will be divided into appropriate skill levels and will receive group instruction. Equipment Needed: Baseball glove, sneakers or rubber cleats
When: Week of July 15–18
Week of July 22 – 25
Where: Community Park’s baseball fields
Time: Choice of 8:30–10:30 a.m. or
11 a.m.–1 p.m. for children entering 1st through 3rd grades
11–1 p.m. for children entering 4 through 6th grades
Fee: $75 each week
Yoga For Youngsters
The recreation department’s certified yoga instructor will offer yoga classes for boys and girls who are residents of the Incorporated Village of Garden City ages 6-14. Children attending this program will learn movements, postures, and breathing techniques that will help with relaxation, self awareness, and fitness.
When: Week of August 12 -15
Where: St. Paul’s Cluett Hall
Time: 9–10 a.m. entering grades 1-3
10:15–11:30 a.m. entering grades 4-7

Connecting With Nature….
Camp That Explores The Living Things Around Us
The Recreation Department and the Garden City Bird Sanctuary are joint venturing to offer a camp experience “Connecting with Nature”. Children ages 6-12 are invited to spend the morning at the Garden City Bird Sanctuary learning about how they can work hand-in-hand with nature. This one-week, two-hour program will meet at Nassau Haven Park and then move into the sanctuary, with walks, crafts, and take homes for each child involved.
When: Ages 6-8

Week of July 15–18
Ages 9-12
Week of July 22-25
Where: Nassau Haven and the Bird Sanctuary
Time: 10 a.m. to noon

Computer Workshops For Kids Entering Grades 4–7
These Computer Workshops are being run by Sharper Training Solutions, a company that the recreation department has used for years with the village’s senior population. The children’s program being set up through them will cover topics that are useful in everyday life and enjoyable for the age group.
Please Note: Computers Are Provided With Two Children To Each Computer. Please Understand That Your Child Will Be Sharing A Computer Terminal.
