At a time of school tax increases surpassing those of personal income while education costs, including benefits, far exceed the inflation rate, it is imperative that elected school boards be sensitive to current and future financial liabilities as well as community educational needs. The era of knee jerk yeses to every demand must cease. It is not other people’s money. It is our money and should be managed for the common good, not special interests.
School Board Members must be forward thinking, intelligent, responsible, caring residents of their neighborhoods as well as the larger community. They have to face and make tough decisions. Fortunately, current Board Member Michael Castellano is running for reelection. A surgeon, Michael presents a rational, sane, reasoned approach to his fiduciary and stewardship responsibilities. Without self-aggrandizing bombast or disregard for the facts, Michael quietly, with incisive intellect, does the job.
We need Michael Castellano’s voice on the BOE. Send a message. Reelect Michael Castellano on May 21 at the OBHS.
