Seniors are the “life-blood” of our center and their role in activities this June were a pivotal example.
On June 20, the Executive Advisory Board (EAB) representing the Center’s Members installed new officers for 2013. The EAB is responsible for identifying issues facing Members, coordinating volunteers and committees that oversee important components of the Center’s programs. This year, the EAB hosted events which generated almost $10,000 for the center.
An annual Book & Bake Sale, a Chinese Auction with over 150 packages and the Under the Stars Dinner Dance were among the few activities hosted by the center’s seniors in May and June.
Senior volunteers are critical to the center’s ability to provide services such as weekly visits to nursing home residents, providing non-emergency medical transportation, and representing the center in Nassau County’s Senior advocacy group. Additionally, Seniors manage Silver Threads thrift shop which generates nearly $12,000 annually, secure gifts for auctions, sell raffle tickets and decorate for special events. Seniors are at the heart of our Volunteer Program.
We are grateful to our seniors for their continued support, guidance and commitment. We are honored to be part of the center’s very special family.
We encourage the community to consider lending their time and talent to help us improve, expand and enhance our Center’s programs for the benefit of our beloved Seniors. Working along side our vibrant Seniors will enrich your life as much as they enrich ours.
