NHP Takes District 29 Championship

With Franklin Square’s recent win over Garden City, they once again fought their way back to face New Hyde Park in the District 29 10U Championship game. New Hyde Park’s pitching and hitting was on target. Steven Brendel pitched with control, as he took command of the mound to lead New Hyde Park to its fourth win.

Brendel threw into the fifth inning, holding Franklin Square to one run. But Franklin Square mounted an offensive attack taking the lead 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth.

New Hyde Park was down to the final out in the top of the sixth, when they came up with big hits. Joe Pomara hit a double, Julian Belardo beat out a single, then Matt Cippola belted another hard single to load the bases.

Michael Dominguez slammed a double to score the go ahead run Nick O’Shea hit a long shot scoring another insurance run. Belardo took the mound and shut Franklin Square down to seal the deal for his second save of the tournament.

New Hyde Park moved on to play in the NY Section V Tournament where they would face other district finalists from the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island.
