Garden City students
In keeping with the district’s lofty standards, Garden City High School students once again racked up high AP exam scores. The College Board recently released the results of students sitting for Advanced Placement (AP) exams and students at Garden City High School bested themselves in virtually every category. A total of 531 students took AP exams, an increase of 30 students over the previous year.
Achievement-wise, 88.6 percent of Garden City students achieved scores of 3+ on the College Board’s 5-point grading scale, up from 85.9 percent in 2012. Further categorization is noted with four levels of distinction by the College Board: AP Scholar (students who achieve a 3 or higher on the 5-point scale on three or more exams), AP Scholar with Honor (students who achieve an average of at least 3.25 on all exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more AP exams), AP Scholar with Distinction (students who achieve an average of at least 3.5 on all exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more AP exams), and National AP Scholar (students who achieve an average of at least 4 on all exams taken and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more AP exams).
This year, a total of 220 students were designated as AP Scholars in the categories noted above, an increase of 19 over 2012. Eighty-three students achieved AP Scholar, 58 achieved AP Scholar with Honors, 79 achieved AP Scholar with Distinction, and 18 of the AP students were designated as National Scholars, up from last year’s total of 15.
