FLG Wins Championship

Jordan, Pappas and Rosato help lead squad to victory

On a recent summer weekend, the 2019 & 2018 FLG Select Boys teams headed up to Cambridge, MA to compete in the Crimson Classic Youth Lacrosse tournament at Harvard University. FLG has graduated 4 Garden City players from their program that are currently attending Harvard and playing on their lacrosse team – Stephen Jahelka, Sean Mahon, Brian Fischer and Devin Dwyer.

The 2019 and 2018 FLG lacrosse teams both went up to the Crimson Classic with the goal of winning the whole tournament and impressing their FLG alums. Stephen Jahelka and Sean Mahon, who were working at the tournament, kept a close eye on the FLG teams and especially watched the up and coming boys from their hometown of Garden City. Nolan Pappas & Chris Jordan of Garden City both play for the FLG 2018 team while attacker Nicky Rosato, also from Garden City, plays with the 2019 FLG team.

All three boys did an exceptional job during the weekend, leading their teams to a championship. The championship games were a great experience for both FLG teams. The 2019 FLG boys defeated Garden City’s own Town Select Team in a very competitive game that ended in overtime and defeated a high-powered NESEL team along the way in the finals. The 2018 FLG boys went on to take down a stellar New Hampshire Tomahawk team to win the championship.

Adding to the championship weekend was a tour given by Stephen Jahelka and Sean Mahon of the Harvard University campus. Steve Jahelka pointed out that “…the mission of the tour was to give the FLG players a better understanding of what day to day life is like as an Ivy League student-athlete. We wanted to let the boys know we were in their shoes not too long ago.”
