Councilman Chris J. Coschignano announced that registration for the Town of Oyster Bay Youth Ice Hockey Program will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Wednesday, October 9 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the
Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage.
Following those dates, registration will continue in the Recreation office at Town Hall South, located at 977 Hicksville Rd. in Massapequa, from Oct. 10 through 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“The Youth Ice Hockey Program provides youngsters, ages 3 to 13, with the opportunity to hone their skating and hockey skills under the guidance of ice hockey coaches,” Coschignano said. “The highly regarded program has earned it recognition by the NHL, which has partnered with the Town to promote hockey programming and youth enrichment through its ‘Hockey Is For Everyone’ initiative.”
Additionally this season, the program welcomes back former New York Ranger and Long Island Duck’s Eastern Hockey League legend Buzz Deschamps, who has joined the staff and will help oversee the on-ice program and its coaches.
The program is available for players born between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2010, according to the standards below:
Tot Hockey
January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2010

“This year, for the first time, the program has been expanded to include Tot Hockey youngsters in the 3- to 5-year-old category,” said Coschignano. “Starting hockey at an early age really helps build a strong foundation for their fundamentals.”
