Women’s Roller Derby Meet, Greet and Sign Up
The Long Island Roller Rebels Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Team will be holding a Meet, Greet and Sign Up At Buffalo Wild Wings on Rte. 110 In Farmingdale at 8 p.m. This is the place to gather more info, meet the skaters and officials and see if this is something you want to do. Skating is fun, competitive, athletic and kick ass. Don’t know how to skate or about Roller Derby? No Problem, the ladies of the Long Island Roller Rebels will teach you. So if you are 18 or older, have a good attitude and are passionate, come on down and see what Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby is all about. This is an open recruitment call for new female skaters, plus people (women and men, too) who would like to be trained as referees and even (male and female) non-skating officials, who do things like manage the penalty box, control the scoreboard, act as lineup trackers and much more. This is a great way to be apart of something huge, meet spirited people of all ages and be a part of an amazing, competative sport. Soil and Water Conservation Meeting
The Nassau County Soil & Water Conservation District Board Meeting will discuss the function and management of the district, with a range of topics based on important environmental news. The meeting takes place at the Malcolm House, 5 Old Jericho Tpke. in Jericho. Orchestra Benefit for United Cerebral Palsy
The Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra presents its 10th annual benefit concert for United Cerebral Palsy Oct. 27. This year, the Nassau Pops is proud to perfrom with singer/recording artist Linda Elder and as always, joining the Pops will be Creation, a talented group of singers from the UCPN center. The Rundead
Special Olympics New York presents this fun way to raise money for a good cause. The Rundead is a 5k trail run through Brady Park in Massapequa Park starting at 8:30 a.m. where runners must escape hungry zombies. Each runner will start off with a flag belt and three flags. These flags represent your lifelines. Zombies throughout the course will be attempting to take these one at a time. If you lose all three, your dead and the zombies have won.
Health stations will be scattered throughout the course. If you choose to make a stop and receive a time penalty, you can gain another lifeline. Use speed, strategy… whatever it takes to keep your flags. If you finish the race with at least one, you have survived. If zombies have taken all your flags you can complete the race but you wont be eligible for awards.

Jewish Genealogy 101
Join the Jewish Genealogy Society of Long Island for the 23rd annual family history workshop, “Jewish Genealogy 101: Four Hours to Your Family Roots,” at the Mid-Island Y JCC at 45 Manetto Hill Rd. The workshop is is a half-day course on sources and strategies essential for Jewish Genealogy research and is recommended both for beginners and for family historians who want to brush up or expand their skills. Cost is $45 per person ($55 after Oct. 27). Attendees receive a copy of the workshop manual. A light lunch, bagels and spreads, coffee and cake, will be served. Miscarriage Support Group
A safe, confidential, supportive environment in which to talk about what you have been through, your reactions and feelings, and how to move forward. You are not alone! Free Veterinary Lectures
Once a month through December, Long Island Cat Fanciers sponsors free lectures given by top local veterinarians on topics relevant to dog and cat owners. All members of the public are welcome to attend. A 12-step self-help group, offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace.
