Herricks High School senior Joslyn Thomas has been selected as a member of the 2013 NAfME All-National Honor Choir sponsored by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). Thomas will join more than 670 high school students in the United States to perform at a gala concert on Oct. 30 in Nashville, TN in the Presidential Ballroom of the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.
Thomas will sing under the baton of one of the most prominent choral conductors in the United States, Rollo Dilworth. She is among only 32 students on Long Island and 74 in New York State to be selected for this honor.
Eligible students have qualified for their state-level honor ensemble program and competed against top students for a spot in these national honor ensembles. At Herricks, Thomas is a member of the chamber choir, womens choir and
Herricks 16 as well as an ensemble member of the Herricks Fall Musical, Kiss Me Kate and an active member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
She has been an active member of the MYO Youth Chorale for the past three years as well as Nassau Suffolk Vocal for two years. Thomas has participated in All County, All State and All Eastern competitions as a junior.
“Joslyn is a hard working, caring and compassionate young woman,” said chorus teacher Louise O’Hanlon. “She is passionate about music and encourages other students. This is a fabulous and well earned opportunity for her.”
Thomas is anticipating another incredible musical experience.
“I am looking forward to working with Rollo Dilworth and singing among the countries most talented vocalists,” she said. “I am eager to meet new friends and making music with them.”
