Fall Festival Street Fair And Homecoming – Huge Success

This year’s Fall Festival Street Fair and Homecoming Parade was a huge success. The village had one of the largest turnouts ever. It was very gratifying to see  the children as well as the adults take part in and enjoy all of the activities.

I would like to thank everyone who had a part in planning the day, as I know this was a lot of work, but it was very much appreciated by those who attended. When you have the time, please visit the village’s website www.gardencityny.net to see photographs that were taken during the day.

Daylight Savings Time

Daylight Savings Time ended Sunday, Nov. 3. Residents are reminded that clocks should have been set back one hour.

This is also a good time to check your smoke and carbon monoxide batteries. In fact, it is recommended that you install new batteries twice a year to be sure they are always working properly.

Veteran’s Day

Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, is the one day each year in which America remembers her sons and daughters who served in the Armed Forces of the United States. It is right that a gratified nation set aside one day a year to recognize and remember these men and women.

On Monday, Nov. 11, the William Bradford Turner Post of the American Legion of Garden City will hold a short memorial salute to these Veterans at 11 a.m. at the War Memorial opposite the Garden City Hotel at Seventh Street. All residents are invited and encouraged to attend this brief ceremony.

Village offices will be closed on Monday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veteran’s  Day. For your convenience, correspondence for the Village may be placed in the “Letter” drop slot at the front door.

National American Indian Heritage Month

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution has asked me to proclaim the month of November as National American Indian Heritage Month in Garden City. Native American Indian Heritage Month began in 1976 and recognition was expanded by Congress and approved by President George Bush in August 1990. The contributions of American Indians have enhanced the freedom, prosperity and greatness of American today.

Board Of Trustees’ Meetings

The next regularly scheduled board of trustees’ meetings for the month of November are Nov. 7 and Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a firsthand perspective.

I would also like to let you know that if you have any concerns or suggestions with regard to the village, please feel free to contact my office at 516-465-4051 or via e-mail at mayor@gardencityny.net
