The Port Washington PAL Peacocks, a girls fifth and sixth grade basketball team, played an exciting game Sunday Dec. 15, at the Adam Katz Gym at Chabad in the Island Garden League, losing by three points at the buzzer.
A crowd packed the gym and saw an exciting competitive game that was up for grabs until the final buzzer when Caterina Fox’s three-pointer bounced off the back rim. The Peacocks fell to the AAU Wildcats, 28-25.
The Peacocks were led by Caterina, Natasha Bohack, and Maria Bullaro, while the rest of the roster Ava Marvin, Elyza Nachimson, Kathyrn Lee, Lois Chu and Sophia Schmitt, all chipped in.
The Peacocks are a developing basketball team whose focus is on learning proper fundamentals of the sport, playing against high level AAU competition, and building a true sense of team. As with all PW PAL sports, the team is coached by a professional and not a volunteer parent. Due to injury, two roster spots are now open for anyone who wants to join one-third into the season.
PW PAL also offers winter sports programs in volleyball, soccer, and deck hockey along with special baseball and softball winter workouts that are held by Frozen Ropes Syosset.
