The Art League of Nassau County will present “A Winter Art Show” in Garden City Public Library’s gallery and showcases through Jan. 2 at 60 Seventh St. This high-quality mixed media show will feature oil paintings, pastels, watercolors, sculpture, and much more by talented artists.

The Art League of Nassau County, founded in 1925, is the oldest art league on Long Island. Present membership is approximately 150. The league’s objectives include: bringing into helpful cooperation those who are interested in all the visual arts; stimulating public interest by various programs; encouraging art education and awakening civic consciousness to the value of beauty in the community.
Through these objectives, the Art League of Nassau has achieved a reputation of esteem and prestige throughout Long Island and the Metropolitan area. Many nationally prominent artists are among its members. At monthly meetings, the league continues to offer informative and inspiring demonstrations by notable guest artists.

Bubble Trouble With Jeff Boyer
Can you make a bubble volcano or a bubble roller coaster? Join bubble expert Jeff Boyer and learn some fun, advanced bubble skills to take out and use in Long Island Children Museum’s “Bubbles” gallery. Boyer takes bubbles to the max in this one-man bubble extravaganza. It’s the craziest, most creative bubble show around. He juggles bubbles, sculpts and builds with bubbles, makes fog-filled bubbles and more. Mixing comedy, music and interactive bubble-magic, this performance delights audiences of all ages. Saturday Space Lab
The Cradle of Aviation will be having its first Saturday Space Lab from noon-4 p.m. Using the Jet Blue Sky Theater Planetarium, participants will be able to look more at light; the different kinds, when it’s wanted and when it actually makes it harder to see things. The Visible Light Saturday Space Lab will end with a project you can take home. Through January 1. This activity is free with museum admission. The Cradle of Aviation is located at on Charles Lindbergh Avenue and is open Tuesday through Sunday, from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is $14 for adults and $12 for children and seniors. Quiz Bowl For Young Adults
Using a buzzer system students in grades 6 through 9 will compete in a Quiz Bowl being held at the Garden City Public Library from 6:30-7:30 p.m.. Limited to 16 participants. Questions will be age appropriate and cover various subjects including current events, science and math, literature, women in history, sports and pop culture. Title Swap With The Librarian
From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the next meeting of the Garden City Public Library’s reader’s advisory series Title Swap with the Librarians will be held on the lower level of the library. Title Swap is a series of programs that gives patrons and librarians the opportunity to share new book titles and briefly discuss them. Whether you are looking to discover a new author to read or to find your next book club pick, come to the next Title Swap with the Librarians on Jan. 14. If you would like, you may bring your lunch, beverages will be served. Remember to bring your own favorite titles to share with the group. Furniture Needed
The A.T.Stewart Exchange Consignment Shop at 109 Eleventh St. in Garden City is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture and show it to Maryann Caterino at the shop (516-746-8900). Consignees are paid 50 percent of the selling price. There is ample parking and the shop is conveniently located on the lower level of The Garden City Historical Society Museum. All proceeds from the A.T.Stewart Consignment Shop go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the Garden City Historical Society Museum, an original 1872 A.T.Stewart era Apostle Victorian structure.

Monthly Cancer Support Group
Franklin Hospital’s cancer support group meets in the former coffee shop at North Shore LIJ Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream. The group regularly meets the first Monday of every month from 2 to 4 p.m. It is open to all cancer survivors, including family members and is ideal for people who need someone to talk to about the illness. Discussions include new medicines and treatments, advice on how to cope and also provides emotional support. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however pre-registration is required. Additional groups are formed upon request, including groups for men with breast cancer and family members. All groups meet at Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. Volunteers Sought For Breast Cancer Program
If you’ve had breast cancer and want to pay it forward become a hotline volunteer. Women and men who are breast cancer survivors and others who are concerned about breast health issues can become volunteers at the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program in Garden City. Volunteers can help by doing fundraising and publicity, as well as by answering hotline calls. Hotline volunteers provide emotional support, information and referral services to callers with breast health concerns.
