Friends of the Sands Point Preserve will present four Port Washington-based choirs for an afternoon of choral music in its annual Winter Choral Concert on Sunday, Jan. 5, at 2:30 p.m. at Hempstead House.
The choirs will perform individually and together—and the audience will be invited to join in at the finale.
Choirs from the following religious organizations will participate: United Methodist Church of Port Washington—Edmund Needham, musical director; St. Steven’s Episcopal Church—Mark van Schenkhof, choir master; Lutheran Church of our Savior—Federico Teti, director of music; and, for the first time, Shir Harmony of Long Island—Rochelle Potak and Bob Emerman. Each choir will take the stage to perform the music of their faiths.
“In our community, so many of us feel a special unity that is born of a deep respect for diversity,” Potak said. “Nothing exemplifies this better than an interfaith sharing of music and spirit.”
About last year’s concert, Teti said: “We felt that such an inspiring place positively affected our singing.”
Refreshments will be served following the concert. Admission is $10 per car or free with an Annual Pass; the 2014 Annual Pass is available now, and benefits start immediately.
