Lena And The Happy Clam Band Presents “The Happy Clam Show”
Hop on the clam boat and learn more about your local sea life! Join us for The Happy Clam Show which pairs music with movement and games for children and their families. Lena brings songs from her award-winning CD Happy as Clams, as well as new nautical songs written especially for LICM’s “Saltwater Stories” program. If you are not a clam, you can hear and see and dance in this splashing good time. (If you are a clam—you don’t have ears or eyes so you can come and….do what it is that clams usually do.) Title Swap With The Librarians
From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the next meeting of the Garden City Public Library’s reader’s advisory series Title Swap with the Librarians will be held on the lower level of the library. Title Swap is a series of programs that gives patrons and librarians the opportunity to share new book titles and briefly discuss them. Whether you are looking to discover a new author to read or to find your next book club pick, come to the next Title Swap with the Librarians on Jan. 14. If you would like, you may bring your lunch, beverages will be served. Remember to bring your own favorite titles to share with the group. For those who are unable to attend the Title Swap meeting, a list of the discussed titles will be found at the reference desk after the program takes place. This program is open to all adult Garden City Public Library cardholders. Registration begins on Monday, Dec. 30. Benjamin Sheen Organ Recital
On Sunday, Jan. 19, Benjamin Sheen will performing an organ recital at Garden City’s Cathedral of the Incarnation on 50 Cathedral Ave. at 4 p.m. Sheen is the assistant organist at Saint Thomas Church on Fifth Avenue, is a recent Juilliard graduate and is one of the UK’s brightest young organists. Hailed as a “brilliant organist” by The New York Times, he is the 2013 winner of the Pierre S. du Pont First Prize in the inaugural Longwood Gardens (Delaware) Organ Competition and also the winner of Second Prize at the St. Alban’s International Organ Competition 2013. Sheen started his education as a chorister at St. Paul’s Cathedral, (under the direction of John Scott), before studying at Eton College and, more recently, Christ Church, Oxford. While an undergraduate, he held the position of Organ Scholar at Christ Church Cathedral. As a concert organist, Sheen has performed throughout the UK and the United States, as well as further afield in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Notable engagements have included performances in Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Royal Albert Hall in London. He has also performed live on BBC radio and television and made a number of appearances on NPR’s Pipedreams and Australian radio.

Family Show—Cinderella
Garden City’s Department of Recreation and Parks and The Garden City Rams Girls’ Lacrosse program are presenting Plaza Theatrical Productions’ performance of Cinderella at 1 p.m. in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall. Admission is $3, payable at the door, but reservations are necessary and can be made by calling the recreation office at 516-465-4075. Furniture Needed
The A.T.Stewart Exchange Consignment Shop at 109 Eleventh St. in Garden City is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture and show it to Maryann Caterino at the shop (516-746-8900). Consignees are paid 50 percent of the selling price. There is ample parking and the shop is conveniently located on the lower level of The Garden City Historical Society Museum. All proceeds from the A.T.Stewart Consignment Shop go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the Garden City Historical Society Museum, an original 1872 A.T.Stewart era Apostle Victorian structure.

Monthly Cancer Support Group
Franklin Hospital’s cancer support group meets in the former coffee shop at North Shore LIJ Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream. The group regularly meets the first Monday of every month from 2 to 4 p.m. It is open to all cancer survivors, including family members and is ideal for people who need someone to talk to about the illness. Discussions include new medicines and treatments, advice on how to cope and also provides emotional support. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however pre-registration is required. Additional groups are formed upon request, including groups for men with breast cancer and family members. All groups meet at Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. •Support group for women with metastatic breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Volunteers Sought For Breast Cancer Program
If you’ve had breast cancer and want to pay it forward become a hotline volunteer. Women and men who are breast cancer survivors and others who are concerned about breast health issues can become volunteers at the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program in Garden City. Volunteers can help by doing fundraising and publicity, as well as by answering hotline calls. Hotline volunteers provide emotional support, information and referral services to callers with breast health concerns. Although the program is housed on Long Island, hotline services and telephone counseling are available to callers throughout New York State.
