Reflect On Past, Look Toward Future

As we enter 2014, a superintendent finds himself reflecting on all the accomplishments of a district and factors that contributed to making our district go from “good to great.” As I reflect, I would like to extend a strong sense of gratitude to everyone for helping us in our accomplishments and helping us in making plans for our future as an educational community.

To the board of education, I thank you for asking the difficult questions, adopting a multi-year academic and fiscal plan, and supporting the efforts of all members of our educational team in supporting our students.

To our administrators, teachers and support staff, I thank you for your commitment to your profession during the most difficult and challenging time in public education. Despite the many external and internal mandates that have been placed on you from the common core, to APPR, to new and difficult assessments and fiscal constraints, you always rise to the occasion and create the exciting  and creative lessons to help our students master and exceed their academic goals.

To the parents of our students, I thank you for your extensive support as the methods and practices of the new educational mandates challenge your traditions, and yet you persevere with patience and understanding, to help your child move forward to academic excellence. We will continue, as a team, to broaden our understanding of the common core and work together to create students who are career and college ready.

To our students, I thank you for all your hard work and perseverance to learn the content by going deeper in your understanding and applications in life. The talents that you build in theater, sports, song and musical instrumental expertise, show how great you are now and how far you will continue to grow.

To our educational community, residents and taxpayers, I say thank you for your support at the polls, for attending our board meetings and all school events, and for being there when we need you.

As all of the groups continue to work as a whole to support our students, we are ready to face the budgetary challenges of next year and the academic challenges of the years to come.

Have a Happy New Year.
